The Gamers Starter Kit...

[ Edited ]

Just thought I would start this for any newbies joining us... Think back to when you first started...

Did you ever wish that there was a 'Starter Kit' of sorts so you could try everything?

When I first started I began with:

Tekken 1 & 2

Gran Turismo

Final Fantasy VII

Tomb Raider

name

I thought it was a great way to begin my gaming career to have the options of all genres to see what I liked playing most... But what would you suggest with the amazing game titles available today?

If you could start someone off with 5 PlayStation games to kick start their gaming career, what would those titles be?

Re: The Gamers Starter Kit...

If I was going back in time to Playstation 1

Gran Turismo

Metal Gear Solid

Final Fantasy VII

Tekken 3

Syphon Filter

I think that would cover a range of genres.... Could maybe substitute Colin McRae or Abes Exodus (not Oddysee.... Exodus is far friendlier to play and has more options)

But if I was to recommend to someone starting gaming today... hmmm.... gee, gaming has matured so I couldn't really recommend this list to someone under 15.... but....

Grand Theft Auto IV - I know it's aged, but the open world is still unmatched IMO.... and I know a lot of people found it boring compared to San Andreas, but in the absence of GTAV... this is the game a new gamer needs to see, to experience a truly interactive, breathing open world.

Uncharted 2 - ok, everyone should experience the sinking ship segment of U3, and the desert hallucinations... but for pacing, character dynamics, plot... this is the better game.

Heavy Rain - Without yet seeing Beyond Two Souls, every mature gamer should play this just to see that games don't have to be set in a square little box world with guns shooting people....

Forza 4 - If the list is games on PS3 only, you'd have to substitute Gran Turismo 5 naturally.... but for pick up and play, variability, I'd tell a new gamer to play Forza 4..

COD4 - I suppose I'd better include a FPS, and to me COD4 still has the best mature feel to it of all the shooters I've played this gen... although on a techy level probably doesn't seem that impressive considering all the COD games since have used the same engine..

Hey Kiwiatlarge!

Thanks for the awesome references! Definitely some great games in there! and some that I haven't thought of in a while (like Abes Exodus!)

I will be buying (or borrowing) some of those titles to get my gaming repertoire up!

Cheers Again,

Chad

Re: The Gamers Starter Kit...

I agree with gavsta72! That sounds like a great starter Kit....

But if I had to put some titles down I would say...

Battle Arena Toshinden (just cause I loved that game)

Kingdom Hearts

Gran Turismo

Tony Hawk

Dance Dance Revolution

Just to have some variety for a beginner.... those were some of the games I started with :smileyhappy:

A few months ago I bought my Brother a PS3 for his Birthday and the 5 games I gave him to start with were:

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Bioshock

Resistance: Fall of Man

Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction

Little Big Planet.
