A little long overdue considering we have been around since 2003. But it's taken until now for me to convince (one of) The Elders to open a thread here on the Official PlayStation forums.
So for a run down on what we're all about, here's Mulletino:
Yes, the OAPs were formed way back in the heady days of the original SOCOM beta on the PS2. When getting online involved a fair bit of fiddling with settings (and a flux capacitor) instead of just selecting a name and being magically transported to the online world of gaming.
There are still some of those original oldies around although a fair part of our userbase is fresh meat, I myself only joined there in June 2004. Most of us don't hang around these here parts much, mainly because we have a fantagical forum of our own we all call home where we can moan about the yoof of today in peace without fear of being digitally stabbed by an ASBO'd up whippersnapper.
Despite having some teams in our organisation, we're mostly about fun and being able to play where it's okay if you need to ***** off for a quick jimmy in the middle of a game (unless you have a bag as do some of our older members). You can also play in peace and without fear you will be abused by some annoying uncouth kid on comms who isn't actually old enough to play the game he's been abusing you on.
Some of us can be found playing SOCOM Confrontation on a Friday night into the wee hours and we often fill a whole room on our own. Much reminiscing goes on in the dead zone of simpler times and back when we actually had reflexes that worked. We do play other games too and are usually online between naps and medicine.
And why not drop by our website at http://www.oaps.org
Say hi to us OAPs!
I've been watching the Gamespot live PS3 Beta Tourney, looks great, even the lighting effects rock.
Looking forward to Battlefield Sunday this week with 20+ OAPs in a server last weekend and many in queue trying to get in. We need those private servers now.
Battlefield Sundays still going good. Infantry Rush was a refreshing change this week. That game mode was made for Rush:smileyvery-happy:
Yup, we're still the original and best.
BF3 is the FPS of choice and is populated a fair bit, with SOCOM fridays still on the go.
GT5 seems to be the fave driving game with a fair few events and a Burnout renaissance seems to be happening too,
That's the thing about being old, you forget what you've played so old games seem like new ones after a while, much cheaper.
It's totally not right that a load of us old gits have access to shiny things :)
Battlefield Sunday Event is up on our shiny new forums.
The only place to be on a sunday :smileyhappy:
Get yourself over to the OAP's
If you don't take your gaming too serious and just want a laugh with other mature gamers, then get yourself over to the OAP's.
We're a mixed community of both male and female members ( mostly male ) who enjoy a bit of banter and a good giggle
We have regular events for Uncharted, Killzone, GT5, COD, Socom and Battlefield but most games are played and catered for
Some great games on Battlefield 3 last night guys. I'm really getting a buzz for the upcoming Counter Strike on PS3. Summer can't come quick enough :smileyhappy:
Yeah, Battlefield Sunday came up trumps again. I even enjoyed the game on Metro for a change! Thanks guys :smileyhappy:
Loads of laughs on UC3 last night, with more and more people playing every week. I even managed to avoid most of the 'nades as well. Thanks folks.
Retro gaming weekend set up for easter, time to get out your old favourites like WaW, BF2 etc
Some great PS3 classic games up on our events page now for the Retro gaming weekend. Wipeout HD, Killzone 2, Socom Confrontation, Singstar, Red Dead Redemption, Classic COD, Battlefield 1943, Gran Turismo 5, Warhawk and Burnout Paradise.
Hope you guys are enjoying your retro weekend over there at OAP towers, or should I say bugalows
Have fun guys, perhaps we can catch you for a game of something soon with us over at Hopegaming
A great weekend of retro gaming had by all.
Big thanks to Wilks for setting up the events
