What is the strategy or motivation behind PSS?

The 96 MB memory limit especially makes me wonder.

I had seemingly naive hopes that one of the motivations was decreasing the appeal of homebrew as it generally makes piracy easier.

Still, that 96 MB is way better than non-rooted android!

The Vita can tombstone up to six applications, so that might be why your app only gets a fraction of the available RAM. Still, some applications can require others to close, implying that they can sequester more RAM.

I would like to see it lifted, or some kind of tiered structure implemented. If an application requires more than 96, it could just be blocked from running or being purchased on low-end devices.

Would PS Suite stuff be treated like games or normal applications, though? You can't for sure run more than one game at a time on the Vita.

I still think memory is a huge problem but I think having texture compression would be just as important as well.
