£100 to play for a year. Well, DCUO was a must buy for me, and absolute essential purchase. But I massively disagree with games that you buy, then have to pay again to actually play. What a massive superhuman disappointment. I cannot express how disappointed I am. I can safely say that I will never play this game. And I think that I'm not the only one who this game has alienated due to this game charging you to play.
I don't buy Red Dead Redemption, then have to pay a subscription fee to play. I can now see this game flopping. The main market for DCUO will be kids aged 10-18 (as well as the older fans). So why they have blatantly priced it well out of the pocket money range I have no idea

Correct me if I’m wrong but is that DCUO subscription not pretty much the same as the WoW subscription?
Right, so a brand new, unproven, console MMORPG is trying to charge the same as the worlds biggest MMORPG which has just released an expansion? And this after having to pay pretty much full price for the game itself in the first place?
My god who comes up with these ideas! DCUO … another game destined for obscurity due to absurd pricing decisions. I hope it succeeds but I really don’t see it garnering any more than a hardcore niche
im still iffy about dc it has potential but with the old republic coming out this year and all

Ok, as a big fan of MMO's on the PC I'm going to do something that goes against everything I stand for when it comes to MMO games and actually defend SOE here, for a moment at least.
The reason most MMO's charge around a tenner for a months access is to cover the cost of the server hosting, the bandwidth costs, new patch and game content costs etc. MMO's are not like single player games and a good MMO evolves over time and if you find that you like them then they can be well worth the money (Obviously MMO's aren't for everyone). Some people will usually hold up Guild Wars as some kind of proof that a subscription isnt required, but Guildwars was not a real MMO and used Peer to Peer technology to instance all areas of the game, apart from the town hubs, and host them from the players machines thus saving them a fortune on server and bandwidth costs, this was also the reason why you only ever saw yourself or your party once you left town.
For those who think that MMO's should be free then my advise is be careful what you wish for, there are plenty of free MMO's on the PC and 99% of them are utter garbage, the remainder use an ingame store that almost forces you to purchase items in order to get any fun out of the game as after the initial few levels they become extreme grind fests and in the end they often end up costing you more than a monthly sub of £10.
Recently a hybrid model has been adopted whereby companies are still charging the monthly fee and including an ingame store, This is where I stop defending SOE as they have shown to have one of the most expensive ingame item stores in any Pay to Play MMO with Everquest 2 (Massively did an article on it), I know that DCUO contains an ingame store so be warned that it will get stocked full of future goodies that you will also pay for and if SOE follow the same path as they did in EQ2 it will start out as cosmetic items and then gradually become items that become more gameplay impacting until it ends up with items on that really should be including as part of the subscription costs. In the future I would not be suprised to see new power sets, new weapons and items like a superhero club house etc on there for silly amounts of money. It doesn't bother everyone but my attitude is that either give me the content for the cost of the subscription with no ingame store, or make the game free and sell items in a store, don't try to do both.
This is just my opinion and something that often causes heated debate on some mmo forums I go on.
