Hey Guys,

I want us to put together some PVP tips for the newer players amongst us (including me!). Right the way from obtaining your Black Eye Stone, the risks of invading another player's world through to how best to back stab that unfortunate soul you're hunting!

To do this, simply post the subject of your tip, followed by the tip itself. Here's an example:

Hunt him down!

Whatever you do, do not attack your PVP target the second you invade his world. Unless you have a special item equipped, he will have been notified that you're invading and will be looking out for you.

Hide! Make him think you've given up or cant find him. Follow him until you think he is unawares or busy with a baddy - then slap him in the face with your big, sharp claymore

Were you not looking at the screen for a moment? Think you might've been invaded while you weren't paying attention? Go to the start button menu and go to the System menu, look at the Load Profile and Quit Game buttons. If they're greyed out, someone is in your base, trying to kill your dudes!

One thing I'll note, for the most part, enemies won't attack black phantoms.

Can someone do me a favor and tell me whether the tip I posted is useful? I've not tried PVP myself yet (cant get a bloody black eye stone - help!) so I'm going on assumptions.

As far as experience goes, enemy NPCs will not attack an invading black phantom unless the phantom attacks first.

The wiki seems to confirm this aswell: "If you can get past the host, you can use demons to attack the host also (demons will not harm you)."

As for the rest of it, it's a good tip. Running head-first into a player you've invaded isn't always wise, some like to set up traps for you, such as hiding behind a corner with a nasty area effect spell waiting for you.

Need a Black Eye Stone?

In 3-1 at the steps/hill leading up to the Cathedral where you fight "Fools Idol" is a black phantom with Thieves Ring. To obtain a Black Eye Stone you must kill a black phantom. Carefully kill her (she has a bow and the "Baby's Nail" and alot of life so be careful) to get your reward. Alternatively, on 4-2 in the Reaper's area is a trap hole where a certain miracle teaching NPC is located. When leaving, a black phantom with dual katanas will be guarding the exit. Kill him and take the stone (with spells, this fight is much easier than the one in 3-1 and if you struggle to navigate the hallways in 3-1 like me, this phantom can be tackled in less time granting you the brilliant Black Eye Stone much earlier). I don't know if they depends on CT or WT but they've been there on both of my playthroughs (once each on US version, once each on EU version) on those levels.

Those two black phantoms are always there (but when killed, won't show up again until your next playthrough) regardless of the circumstances.

I knew they disappeared when they died (well, for 3-1, didn't know if they disappeared in 4-2) I just wasn't certain as to whether it required a certain Character or World Tendency (as the World Tendency for almost every level except for Bolterian Palace was black yesterday when online [lol] and at the Tower of Latria on 3-1 I had a Black Character Tendency so I just wasn't certain but there was alot of blood stains around there so it seemed likely that it was always there). Also, speaking of Black Phantoms, do you know how to get summoned for 3-3 by the Old Monk as I'm going for a sort of Battle Mage build and am trying to get the Head Wrappings for the Magic Attack bonus?

Ready to Invade?

Wile the invading message is coming up in blue writing at the bottom of the screen, ensure you have full health and magic. Then, when you have just invaded another players world, immediately run or roll forward. 4-1 especially, is prone to invaders and a few people, once they get the warning, will try and run behind the invader's spawn point if they are near the start of a level. If you don't run forward, you could easily get backstabbed and while it is unlikely that somebody will be waiting behind you, it is better to be safe than dead. And, just before you invade, if you have the thief's ring make sure you don't have a regeneration item on. Many players seem to make this mistake and it makes your character stand out A LOT to invaders and makes the ring pointless so if you get word of an invader, remove the regeneration item and equip another.
