Demon's Souls

How do you level up? Is it done automatically or something? Any help would be appreciated. I've killed phalanx and not sure what to do next.

After you've killed Phalanx, go back to the Nexus and talk to the Maiden, she'll tell you to speak to the Monumental so go up the stairs to get to her (the outer stairs, not the inner ring of stairs that you get to the other levels with). After you've spoken to her, talk to the Maiden again and she'll let you spend souls to level up.

Nice one. Not that it's made much difference just gone on that storm level and lost all my souls. It's starting to get annoying now. I usually hate RPGs and so want to love this but getting bored now. Along with every other game in my collection think it's time to find a new hobby and stop wasting my money

Different enemies in different worlds usually have a weakness to something.  In shirne of storms 4-1, skeletons are weak to blunt/fire damage.

If you are dying quickly, put points into Vitality (at least to around 20).  Then get yourself/upgrade a decent weapon and shield, and block the skeletons first before attacking.

Remember, you can return to your bloodstain to recover your souls.

I'm not sure of your character, but for lower levels, Dragon Weapons are very useful.  Also, there is part upgraded Crescent Falchion in that same level you died in, very near the start.  It is near a black skeleton but you could distract him with souls remains/just make a dash for it.

Get this and your life will be so much easier.

I think thats in the guide, thats where i am up to, i killed phalanx and the red eye knight a few times for some extra souls so when i get in tonight ill continue using the guide that came with the game to get the falchion and then hopefully move on to kill another boss!

Many enemies in 2-1 are vulnerable to pierce attacks and fire.  The Crescent Falchion won't damage them much, but it's very useful against the Bugbears in 2-2.
