I have only completet DMC 1 by now, so should I get DMC 4 without knowing the stories of 2 and 3? Would I understand the story of DMC 4?

Yeah, the stories are seperate. However I would recommend that you get DMC3 to the highest regard, that's the best game in the series so far. Or better yet the Special Edition version.

As for DMC2, don't bother. It literally adds nothing to the story.

Well DMC4's story is kinda separte from the rest, alltough there are some things pointing in the earlier in the series.

I personally have played DMC1 to mission 4, DMC3 trough and DMC4 trough, and i don't really care that much about DMC2..

Not that i wouldn't get if i found it, it's just so rare in where i live. (Not to mention DMC1, i got lucky with that one)

Anyways, there's just buy DMC4, and buy the rest later if you feel like it.

I'd say play DMC3, for two reasons.

 It's the earlist in the chronology, and it's the best DMC game out of the lot according to the fan forum I was a member of until recently.

I'd play 4 first then go back to 3 if I was you. 3 is so much harder than 4 that if you play 4 after it it'll seem soooo easy it's untrue. Sod number 2.
