I think you need to follow the laughter, that is go through the purple mist when you can hear the manic laughter of the boss of the forest.

It took me a while to figure out too, but I followed the sound of the laughing and it seemed to work for me. If it helps, you're basically getting back to the arena you fought the boss in as Nero.

NO I don't think thats it, they just swapped abit of the map with the mist effect so it wouldn't be that repedative in a way, just think you should try to get back to the beginning, just try too remember wheye you been and try to get to the palace looking thing by the fountain

Just keep following the laughter until you get to the bit with the stream and a bridge running over it. Go through the smoke under the bridge. I don't think you can really get lost after that bit.

This is correct. The laughter is the boss laughing at you, follow it right to her.

You could do it by trial and error as mentioned, but that might take a lot longer, and you want a fast time if you want a good rank.

I got stuck for about 5 mins... Then I realised that there was a purple cloud under that bridge also. Then I just made my way to the next part.

All I did was trial and error for a few minutes until you get to the very start (where it splits into 3 paths). You follow one of the paths until you get to the area with the statue/spire and you have to go the (Spoiler?) opposite way to the shadow. It's up, then down, then right, then... well, go opposite the shadow then you'll reach the boss. Sorry I can't be more specific, try looking at a guide on gamefaqs.com!

Lol i hated that part! I got through the purple mist on my own but then i had to look on youtube on which way to go on the crossroads!

I believe it's north, south, east, east (99% sure)

All you have to do is look at the shadow of the central column, if the shadow is pointing north, then you have to go south. If it points east, you go west.

One of the inscriptions says "..... keep darkness behind you, and go straight ahead"....

That's what it means.

Recently redid this mission, when you start, jump off the big bridge you are on, Head east through the mist.  You should be in the forgotten ruins, once again, jump off the bridge and take out all the foes. Then head through the only mist you could see when you landed. You should now be in Windswept Valley. Jump down and take down the monsters. Then head to the church (I think it's the only doorway with mist). You should now be in Ancient Plaza, once again, take out all the foes, then head out the non-misted exit. Now you should be at Lapis River, you don't need to take the foes out here, just run under the south side of the bridge. (Run past the bridge, then fall into the river and go under). You will now end up outside the church of Windswept Valley (Hopefully), go in. Now go through the doorway under the stairs. And there, you're in the Lost Woods. I will not bother typing anymore because the Lost Woods is the final part of the mission before the boss, and instructions have already been given by DrTrouserPlank.
