Can the reader read anything other than comics?

Can this application be used for anything other than comics off of the playstation store? I'd really like to use my PSP as an ebook reader, plain text, pdf, or any format would do,As long as I can convert freely available content to read on the go. Thanks for the cool app

Re: Can the reader read anything other than comics?

Currently, it only supports the comics specifically formatted for the software. However, the comics themselves do support additional audio as well as a few other bits and bobs. I'd imagine, sometime in the future, we'll see more support for the reader. :smileyhappy: Personally, I'd love to see the Digital Comics make there way over to PS3 too! (Off topic. I had a nightmare trying to click the reply button then. It kept vanishing!) :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Can the reader read anything other than comics?

Comic books are nice -- but I agree pdf, txt, xps --- or some other text format for books or news would be a great thing that I would much rather get.

NOTE: maybe sony would get this hint and do something about it if enough people also reply.

-- and in case you think there are enough -- check to see if there are a million responses yet -- if not -- then add your reply to the list.

PDF sounds like a great addition, would come in very handy and then psp would become an ebook reader too. could have a book store for psp aswell.

Re: Can the reader read anything other than comics?

The Digital Reader launched with the Comics store but they have talked about expanding the Digital Reader to support other forms of print media in the future. Not sure if you ever see it letting you read your own PDF files etc. but you could see it support ebooks and magazine in the future perhaps.

Re: Can the reader read anything other than comics?

1 million posts... yeah, right...

But I am with you 100%

Give PSP official firmware the power to open PDF files (AND SOON) or risk more of us going over to Custom Firmware.

Hell, I am even prepared to buy a PDF Reader as a download  app from the PS Store.

And PLEASE don't make it some built in reader that can only open PS Store files (like the comic reader). I would love to hear from a Sony "Official" on their Ideas for the PSP with regards to PDF (if there are any).

No PDF support in (or by) next Firmware update and I'm gonna pull out my Pandora and Custom Firmware everyone in my area for FREE!

The PSP's greatest downfall is lack of content.

Sony, why don't you take a look at some of the Home Brew Apps out there and get them onto the PS Store as minis? If you could do that, Official firmware PSP would Rock!

Throw away our PCs? Blasphemy!

Though what the PSP and PS3 can do each month to each year continues to amaze and impress me. Keep it up Sony.

Re: P.D.F!Re: Can the reader read anything other than comics?

Making Comic Reader support even one additional format is a huge amount of work for, by definition, no return for Sony. So that isn't going to happen.

However, if Comic Reader supported unsigned user-made comics, then any number of format converters would spring up (on sensibly powered hardware!) so you could take your own documents on the move, and even distribute your own work. PDFs, scans, original artwork, even photo albums could be so packaged!

Naturally there will be the knee-jerk fear that paid-for content could be repackaged and distributed in this way (if the DRM could be defeated), but such content could be distributed as a directory full of JPEGs anyway, or even a web page. I'm sure people would be happy with unsigned restrictions such as no sound if that was the price to pay.

Supporting user-made comics would be very easy indeed, and hence might just about happen. Why not, Sony, with your new-found openness?

If the next PSP is Android-based, then all such content control will go out of the window anyway!
