quick question about the game modes on this. 

ive checked reviews and everything and im still not clear on this. does this have the battle mode like the mario kart one where it's just a case of 'killing' the other player in an arena? It seems there is a battle type mode but from what i can see it just takes place on one of the many tracks rather than an open area. can anyone shed some light on this please before i decide to get it.

The only modes are single / multiplayer races and a challenge mode with 64 challenges to try and triple A. There's a grand prix mode which basically involves racing in 4 events to win the cup. There is definately no battle mode although this may be available as DLC in the future.

Actually, there is a battle mode... but only for offline splitscreen multiplayer. There's also a capture the flag style mode, king of the hill, knockout, and some mode involving keeping hold of all 7 chaos emeralds... but again, they're all offline only.
