Hey Community,

Our E3 Live Chat is now over. A massive thank you to everyone who submitted questions - we had a great time getting them answered for you!

You can see a summary of everything that was answered below. Unfortuntely we ran out of time and couldn't cover LBP on Vita, but we're looking at getting those questions answered very soon on the PlayStation Blog.

Thanks for taking part, questions follow:

!WARNING! THERE ARE RESISTANCE 2 PLOT-LINE SPOILERS IN THIS THREAD!

E3 Live Chat Summary:

Adam Grant: European Brand Manager - PlayStation Vita

Pesico wrote:
When will the NGP launch in Europe?
Will Uncharted NGP be a launch title?
Will the Wifi and 3G versions of the NGP release simultaneously?
Will the Trophy system on the NGP work towards the same trophy amounts as we currently have on the PS3?

Hi Pesico and everyone else who is joining us live from E3 - we're going to kick off with these questions which have been asked by a number of you and we're very pleased to have Adam Grant here, who is the Brand Manager for PS V ita in Europe.. So, onto your questions:

Adam says: "Regarding the launch date for PS Vita, this will be a phased roll-out starting at the end of this year. I can't confirm when the European launch date is just yet and we will announce this shortly. As for the software titles, Uncharted does look great on PS Vita and all software release dates are yet to be finalised. The two versions of PS Vita will give you the chance to get the product that suits you best. In terms of your Trophies, yes, the trophies you collect playing PS Vita games will add to your overall trophy count."

Never had a PSP so this maybe a newby question but:

Can we link our PS3 PSN accounts to the Vita and vice versa? Also can i access any of my PSN games from my Download list on it?

Adam says:

"Hi fi8767!

Yes, you will use the same PlayStation Network account that you've set up on your PS3 to access PSN on the PlayStation Vita console.

You'll also be able to access your download list and download/play any PSP game you've purchased so far."

Adam says:

"Yes, we already showed WipEout 2048 and Ruin with cross-platform play and we are working with developers to ensure this feature is rolled out across as many suitable titles as possible. In WipEout for example, you'll be able to race against people playing the game either on PS Vita or PS. As for hardware and / or software bundles, I can't confirm anything at the moment."

Backwards compatibility ??

Adam says:

"Absolutely. PlayStation Vita will support backwards compatibility for PSP and minis games, there's more to come too so stay tuned."

How much will be the internal storage of the Vita?

Adam says:

"Aside from the system software, all your data will be stored on external memory cards."

Question by PainO666 from the portuguese community

Does NGP allows remote play with PS3 for all games, cause PSP only allowed it on a limited number of games

Adam says:

"Hey PainO666 and pl_splisbon!

You'll be able to access the same content via remote play on the PlayStation Vita as you can on your PSP"

Hi Playstation team! Awesome conference yesterday congrats and the PSVIta looks awesome!

One of the features I enjoyed the most was the common vocal chat room for the friends to be able to chat together whatever the game they are playing on the PS Vita. As a former PC player it is something I missed painfully on the PS3 whereas we were almost sure that it was possible to implement it. Will you adapt it on PS3 someday in order to allow everyone to chat in a good quality vocal chat whatever game they are enjoying at the moment?

Thanks for answering! My bests!

Konduur666

Adam says:

"In terms of Party on PS Vita, as well as being able to text and voice chat with other PS Vita players when you're playing any game, you can set up multiplayer games and use it when you're using any of the features such as browsing the Internet - so for example, you could be playing Uncharted and your friend could be browsing the Internet at the same time and you could be exchanging game tips."

Why was Vita chosen as a name?

Adam says:

"Hey sp33dking89,

Vita means "Life" in latin. The aim with PlayStation Vita was always to integrate the console into every aspect of your day-to-day life, so we went with a name that reflects that goal."

Q1: will it have dynamic themes like the PS3?

Q2: can i call mine Barry?

Adam says:

"Hey trevortm,

We're looking into ways for you to customise your PlayStation Vita, so stay tuned for more information on that. I'll see about sending you a sticker for yours which says: "This Vita is called Barry." :smileyvery-happy:"

TehFox wrote:

1) Will the Vita have a web browser?

2) For 3G will the Vita be using a normal sized SIM card or Micro SIM?

Adam says:

"Hey there TehFox,

The Vita's web browser will be a much improved version of the PSP web browser. We'll have more info on that soon.

As for SIM cards, the Vita will use a normal sized SIM :smileyhappy:"

NL - marmag126: How will the games be published on PS Vita? Physical media or downloads only (due to PSPGo not getting all games published in the PS Store)?

Adam: "All PS Vita games will be available as downloads from PlayStation Store."

DE - Forum Question by omgichmagkekse20: Is the GPS standard for the PS Vita?

Adam: "The GPS is standard on the 3G version; on the Wireless version, you'll still be able to access location-based services using Wireless triangulation."

DE - Forum Question by Germansnake: Does the PS Vita have a TV-out?

Adam: "No."

DE - Forum Question by green_day_fan_: Does the PS Vita have an android operating system? If so, can android apps be used?

Adam: "No; the operating system for PS Vita is built especially for the system. PS Vita will be compatible with newly developed PlayStation Suite titles."

DE - Forum Question by PrinceofGaming: Is there a way to play my older UMD PSP games on the PS Vita? Is there so to speak an external UMD device? Will there be a region lock on the PS Vita?

Adam: "We are considering every possibility for supporting older UMD titles."

FR - Hagy - How is the handling as it is quite big?

Adam: "PS Vita has been specifically designed for long periods of gaming; I've played lots of different games on it already and find it really easy to use and get to grips with."

born2destroy wrote:

Will video chat on the psp cross with the ps3s video chat?

Adam says:

"No, Party is software specific to PlayStation Vita consoles. You will however be able to send PSN messages from your PlayStation Vita, which can then be read by your friends on a PlayStation 3 console."

PL - Rafa_Ello - What games will be offered with NGP in the release date?

Adam says: "Games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Little Deviants and Wipeout 2048 will all be available in close proximity to the launch of PlayStation Vita. We can't be too specific about release games at the moment, so stay tuned for more news"

EN - Pesico - Will the Trophy system on the NGP work towards the same trophy amounts as we currently have on the PS3?

Adam says: "Definitely. All trophies you earn on PlayStation Vita will add to your total trophy count and level across the PlayStation Network!"

FR - ZeVinSyL- Can we expect the PlayStation Network on the NGP to be free?

Adam says: "Absolutely."

FR - ZeVinSyL- Will it be possible to access the same friend list located on the PS3 on the NGP and to communicate with these friends?

Adam says: "All the details of your PlayStation Network account will transfer over to your Vita. So your friends list, account details and trophies will all stay the same!"

Unknown: What type of experience (effects) can we expect from the system: a 3-axis gyroscope, a 3-axis accelerometer and a 3-axis compass (plus, already mentioned, GPS)?

Adam says: "So, with the gyroscope and accelerometer, in a game such as Little Deviants, you control the characters by tilting or moving PS Vita around; also, in WipEout, you tilt PS Vita to ge the perfect line through a bend, and in Uncharted you move PS Vita to aim at a character before taking him out.

As for the GPS, one of the best ways to illustrate how this will be used is in the "near" application, a location-based gaming feature that for example lets you access free virtual items that other users have shared in that location."

Richard Lewarchand: Co-Lead Games Designer - Naughty Dog!

What efforts have been made to ensure the uncharted 3 multiplayer is balanced?

Richard says:

"Playtesting, playtesting, playtesting! We playtest our multiplayer game every day at work with anyone and everyone at the studio who wants to take part. The conversations we have after each game are really useful for us to polish the design of the multiplayer game and the balancing of the mechanics. We also playtest on members of the public and study the videos we capture of their gameplay which gives us even more useful information."

born2destroy wrote:

Why are your games so epic and make me drule when looking at them?

Richard says:

"LOL!

Thanks so much for the kind words. We worked really hard to put as much epic into our games as we possibly can. It's a testament to the talent of everyone at Naughty Dog that you end up with drool all down your front :smileywink:

I hope you're going to enjoy Uncharted 3 when it comes out in November!"

ES - pablo5428 - Are you going to reveal more content of Uncharted 3?

Richard says:

"We're showing a tonne of new content at E3. Hopefully you saw the cruise ship demo that we gave at the SCEA E3 press conference last night. It gave us a chance to show off some important new aspects of our game, in particular our dynamic water systems. Did you notice the way that the water was sloshing around in the swimming pool? And, of course when the ship tips over, the water in those sequences is a dynamic simulation and it's taken a lot of hard work to make them look and play really great. We're also showing off new multiplayer modes like Three Team Deathmatch and visitors to E3 will get to see a live demo of another section of our single player game if they visit our demo cinema on the SCEA booth on the show floor."

nemesisND1derboy wrote:

Hey Richard,

As someone who loved the story, pacing and length of Uncharted 2, can we expect a comparable time for a playthrough of Uncharted 3?

Richard says:

"We're putting just as much energy into the story and gameplay of the single player game in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and I recently played through the whole game, which is getting quite close to completion now.

So, I can confirm that the single player game is about the same length as that of Uncharted 2 and although I might be a bit biased, I'm happy to say that I think the cinematic gameplay experience we've created for Uncharted 3 is going to blow people away in the same way that Uncharted 2 did.

We've got some great surprises in store and I can't wait to see people's reaction to the game when it comes out in November!"

JaKhris wrote:
What has been your biggest challenge in the making of Uncharted 3?

Richard says:

"We always like to push ourselves to new heights of excellence at Naughty Dog and we achieved some goals with Uncharted 2 that some people who make this kind of game had thought were impossible. In particular, our dynamic foreground traversal system, which we used to make the famous train level in Uncharted 2, had taken a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get right.

So, when we set out to make Uncharted 3, we bit off some similarly big chunks of game development challenge, including all-new dynamic water systems and the addition of physics to our object traversal systems. You can see this in action in the gameplay demo we showed at the Sony press conference last night. Some of the objects that fly around in the hold of the cruise ship as it capsizes are physics-driven and Drake can interact with them in a very "real-time" way. Not to mention that the hold was flooding with our real-time water as the ship tipped over!

Everyone at the studio has been working inredibly hard to make this the best Uncharted game yet, and I know we have a lot more challenges ahead of us as we complete the game. Our team is amazing and I know that we'll figure everything out by the time we ship the game in November.

Hey Richard!

Just wanna say, well done to all you at Naughty Dog, you've obviously been putting 110% from day one and it certianlly showed!

Im just looking to know, after re-watching the trailer, i noticed Elena is wearing a ring on her wedding finger...Is there nothing you can share with us about that :smileyvery-happy:

If not, just know were all looking forward to November, keep it up!

(Btw, your team have actually inspired me to write, so thank you :smileywink: )

Richard says:

"Thanks very much for the kind words! We do work really hard and put a lot of love and passion into our games and I'm glad that it shows.

"I'm also very happy and excited that you noticed the ring that Elena is wearing. I'm afraid I'm not going to tell you anything that would spoil the story for you, but I can let you know that the presence of that ring is significant and will be addressed as the events of Uncharted 3's single player game unfold. :smileyhappy:"

Jon Pacquette: Writer - Resistance 3

NL - markaveli81: Will Resistance 3 answer questions about the Chimera's origins? Also, in Resistance 2 we saw a massive monster as a boss, can we expect a bigger boss?

Jon Paquette: "It will answer some questions but the origins of the Chimera is a mystery to a lot of people. One of the things we wanted to do in Resistance 3 was give Dr Malikov a voice, and so to do that we allow the player read his journal and discover a lot of the back story of the Chimera.

"I'm not sure which boss you saw. Nevertheless, there are some big creatures that you'll come across in the game. One of my favourites is the Goliath but also watch out for the Kraken."

FR : T61_ : Will we be able to choose our character in Resistance 3 co-ops ?

Jon says:

"Co-op is through the single player campaign, so  one player will play as Joseph Capelli and the other will play as John Harper, one of Joe's closest friends in Haven."

FR - Pierro34: the campaign will be on split-screen or online cooperative ?

Jon says:

"It will be both. We also have 16 player online play and a variety of modes."

CEK111 wrote:

Hey Jon!

Seeing as your the writer for Resistance 3, you seem the perfect guy for me to ask :

Im really happy to see where the story is stadning as of what all i've seen, Capelli' alone, the war is over, and America looks silent from what we've seen. Its a brilliant atmosphere,

But how does this all relate to the man himself, Capelli, we know he's on a journey, but does this character really get pushed to his limits, or is it just a matter of run, shoot cutscene?

Good luck, and Thanks, looking forward to Resistance 3 :smileywink:

Jon says:

"So the first thing that you really need to is that Capelli was dishonourably discharged from the military, he was the one who killed Nathan Hale.

So after that he went off on his own, found a woman, fell in love and decided to start a family. Resistance 3 starts 4 years after the end of Resistance 2 and, in those 4 years, his son has grown ill and needs medicine. Plus, the world itself is getting colder due to the Chimera terra-forming.

When Dr. Malikov comes to Capelli and tells him that they may not survive the winter, Capelli has to make a tough choice. Does he stay and watch his family die in front of him? Or does he go to New York and maybe save them?"

kinggizmo wrote:

Will we be seeing more of the cloven in this title? And what's with the sledgehammer? :smileyvery-happy:

Jon says:

"I always get questions about the Cloven! We're not touching on the Cloven in this title, but you can imagine that they are still out there. As for the sledgehammer, that is a harrowing part of Capelli's journey where desperate times require desperate measures."

Unknown: Can you tell us any more about the striking cover art and general art direction for Resistance 3?

Jon says:

"Covers are always an interesting dilemna that require a lot of people to work together. Marcus our creative director was very keen on using something simple and iconic. He found this artist Olly Moss who had done lots of movie posters, so he talked to the European marketing guys and they worked with im on a cover. And as soon as everyone saw it, everyone thought that had to be it. I know it goes against a lot of videogame conventions, in terms of not having the hero on the cover, but I think that simple, iconic image captures the game better than any other image could.

"Resistance is an alternate history game so we try to do whatever we can to use real locations, real history and twist it. So, with the art direction in Resistance 3, we'll see some very familiar places and it will definitely will feel like the 1950s."

DE - PrinceofGaming: does the story of nathan hale play any role in the third version at all?

Jon says:

"Of course. Resistance 3 continues the story from Resistance 2, so in that sense everything Hale had done up to this point made the events of Resistance 3 possible. If Hale hadn't sacrificed himself then we wouldn't know as much about the Chimera as we do. At the beginning of Resistance 3, we learn that Dr Malikov found unique protein in Hale's blood and from that was able to create a cure for the Chimera virus but unfortunately 90% of the human population has already been killed by the Chimera:smileymad:"

Re: E3 2011 - Submit your Questions!

Will the NGP have Skype (specifically for voice calls)?

Which will be more battery-efficient: Accessing the Internet on the NGP using 3G or wifi? And what would the expected relative difference in battery time be?

Whatever happened to the Move game Sorcery?
