Cutting the barels off of a shotgun and giving it a name.

I'm no grammar nazi but should the shotgun in Fallout 3 that has had its barel removed by means of sawing be called a sawn-off shotgun? Not a sawed-off shotgun as the game calls it. Also, I've never heard it being called sawed-off, always sawn-off.

It's an american variation apparently http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sawed-off_shotgun
