Launch ICBM?

Hi - better late to the party than not at all :smileyhappy:

I'm nearly at the end of the original Fallout 3, having had it in my backlog for months now. I've tried to play it a couple of times before, but the first time was while I waited for my import of Demon's Souls to turn up, so you can see how it got rejected in favour of that... (although in retrospect, I have to say I think Fallout is the better, although buggier, game).

I never managed to get into it (Fallout) whenever I tried to play it, but the recent PSN outage has given me motivation. So enough with the pointless backstory pre-amble and onto my question (or 2).

I was mooching around the Fort Constantine bunker for the armour/quest/trophy and mindlessly hacking terminals for dribbles of XP when one gave me the option to "launch ICBM". Well, obviously I clicked it - how can you not? :smileyhappy:

But then a lot of alarms went off, and it made a lot of noise as it did exactly what it said on the tin - launched an ICBM. And I thought "hmmm, maybe I should have considered that for a bit longer". Does anyone know what effect that has? Or is it just random, cool fluff with no effect on the game world at all?

And while I'm here, I forgot all about the dog I'd seen in the marketing all those months ago. And I've been running around the wastelands for 100-odd hours now, yet I still don't know where to get that dog... I realise it was probably in Valut 101, which is now locked to me because Amata banned me. But I explored the vault pretty thoroughly - but don't remember seeing any dogs until I had to euthanise the first rabid dog I came across in the wastes. So where do you get the dog? Or is it only available through a certain chain of actions?

Thanks for any help on my newb ignorance (as I approach the platinum lol).

Re: Launch ICBM?

I don't think the ICBM does anything at on all on the console version of the game. As for Dogmeat, you should have already encountered him during a mission to the Scrapyard. YT to find the Yard : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgcAaYypoow

Re: Launch ICBM?

OK thanks - looks like the dog is a lot more missable than I thought. I vaguely remember having to find a scrapyard, but can't remember why. And I certainly didn't find Dogmeat. Oh well - no biggie. I just had to dump a load of weapons and armour to stop the game freezing every 10 minutes, so don't really need a companion to find me more stuff :smileyhappy:

Re: Launch ICBM?

The ICBM has a launch failure so nothing happens, although you can launch a nuclear missiles at one of the satellite towers in the north-west corner of the wasteland.
