poor planning?

It seems that if you don't already know what's going to happen, you can totally screw up a mission you havent started yet.

I.e i did the mission to free those little kids from lamplight caverns, i free'd them by killing everybody in the slaver camp, rather than being bad and enslaving people. Now i've just found out that i needed that groust guy for a different mission, but he's dead so i can't do it.
I can go back to a save somewhere i think, but it seems like you need to know what's going to happen if you're going to be able to do all the missions, maybe it'd be better if some NPC's could only be "stunned" rather than killed, so you can still get the missions done?

Re: poor planning?

You can start a new game, and get out of the Vault within an hour then a walk to the slaver camp and get the quest, it doesn't require fighting to quite easy to do.

Re: poor planning?

i don't need to i've already said i've got a save.

It's just my point is that maybe next time around bethesda could do something about this, or have a different way of activating the missions.

Re: poor planning?

Certain people who are vital to the plot CAN only be stunned - for example, I tried to kill Amata when I first left, and she was merely left unconcious.

The point of a sandbox game is that you can play it any way you like -  if that closes up further quests to you then that's just the way the cookie crumbles. For example, when I first came across the Commons, I killed the Antagoniser and Mechanical dude straight away. No trophy gained, no quest, no EXP, but I still got the reward without doing the long-winded search mission. That's just how it is.

Re: poor planning?

In Oblivion there were many NPCs who were deemed 'mission critical', and then others who would have been nice not to find dead (for example the orc who sells you the house in Skingrad), but someone like the guy who first comes to you in your sleep from the Dark Brotherhood - I killed him (on purpose) and cut off the entire Dark Brotherhood quest line and guild.  That's the way I wanted to play the game, and I'm glad I was able to do it.

Game bugs aside, I reckon all NPCs who are not critical to the main quest should be freely killable, it's then up to the player to keep them alive or do away with them as they see fit.

Re: poor planning?

Have to agree, I find myself reading a little bit about each mission to make sure I don't do something that'll lock future quests.
Well that or talking with friends who are further than me :smileytongue:
