Avatars using the forum design

Several forums users have displayed awesome avatars using effects with the forum's new user space design, the first being The_Method. These have now become popular, so this is a thread to see which ones you can make.

Here are two that i made today, a Borderlands psycho:

And Nathan Drake hanging on:

(Anyone can use these designs if they want to)

short tutorial - How to make these avatars (using Photoshop)

1. Open a new blank file and put it to the dimensions of 80px by 80px.

2. Create a vetical line, cut it and paste it (it should appear in the exact centre of the avatar) This is where the profile part meets the outer line.

3. Insert the images you want.

4. Delete parts until you have the desired effect.

I'll be sure to post more that anyone ca use, and i look forward to seeing what you can do.

Check out The_Method and THE_FORCE's avatars using this effect!

Re: Avatars using the forum design

They are a good idea, but I don't like them :smileysad:

The majority have the Image on the Dark Grey background but I think it would be better if the Images were on the light Grey Back ground :smileyhappy:

Re: Avatars using the forum design

The main issue is coming up with an idea, i guess people prefer to use the darker grey surface because it looks more out of the norm, but i'm intrigued to see some in the lighter grey as you said.

Here's one I just did, (Check Avatar)

When I originally designed my avatar it was never meant to be like this, so i will change it back in a few days :smileyhappy:

Re: Avatars using the forum design

I think which side you use, depends on what you do with the picture. Mine worked better on the dark side, due to the shadow and bite effect etc. See left :smileytongue:

Re: Avatars using the forum design

PheoniX I see a grey outline on yours? i think it would look a bit better if it was transparent maybe?

Re: Avatars using the forum design

I was thinking that too, didn't want to say anything for the fear of me looking crazy :smileytongue:

Re: Avatars using the forum design

I tried that, but it gave me a really hard edge around the shadow areas, instead of teh soft fade.

I'm going to try a ping instead, see if that works.

I can do books n stuff, but I'm no good with web images and files :smileytongue:
