Sig Tips & Tricks -Disscussion-

[ Edited ]
I thought it might be useful if there was a tips and tricks thread where people who are competent in Photoshop or other design software can explain how they make their sigs to help people who are getting into sig making improve and to share ideas and techniques.

Click here for the tutorial thread.

Re: Sig Tips & Tricks

what do you mean by a layer mask?

If you go to the Layer menu then choose > Layer Mask > Reveal All it adds a layer mask. On the layer mask anything that's white is visible anything that's black is not so you can simply use the airbrush tool to remove parts of the image you don't want.

So the layer mask for this layer...

Looks like this...

Re: Sig Tips & Tricks

I thought it might be useful if there was a tips and tricks thread where people who are competent in Photoshop or other design software can explain how they make their sigs to help people who are getting into sig making improve and to share ideas and techniques.

To start things off, a sig that took about 5 minutes has very few layers and was quite popular. It's nothing special, but at least it shows how simple it can be.

Original image:

Layer 1
The original image with: Filter > Brush Strokes > Spatter applied with the saturation upped to make it more green and the levels tweaked to harden the contrast.

Layer 2
Duplicate layer 1 with: Filter > Artistic > Paint Daubs applied, desaturated and a Soft Light blending mode.

Layer 3
Vamp with a layer mask to remove the background and the saturation upped.

Layer 4
The original image desaturated and levels tweaked to give more contrast with a Soft Light blending mode.

Layer 5
Duplicate layer 4 with: Filter > Brush Strokes > Spatter with a Soft Light blending mode. A layer mask was added to remove the face area.

Layer 6
I couldn't find the font so I used text from a Roy Campbell :smileywink: desktop picture and tweaked other strokes to make the V. Added a bit of outer glow with noise and a Soft Light blending mode then duplicated it to strengthen it.

Layer 7
Black inner glow with noise.

Place those layers on top of each other and you get...

I cant remove the background with a layer mask :s
What layer mask did you select odogg? Maybe because im using GIMP...
Sorry for 2x post.
