Drake slowly awoke to the soothing light that began piercing through the panaromic windows as the they cleared from black to clear in his high rise apartment, in the distance beyond the super high rise buildings he half-consiously watched as another 200 storey building was being delivered by one of the many transport ships that had been arriving at the system. Earth was severely over populated and the mass migration had been in effect for over 40 years. There were over 100, 000 families now settled on the far off colony, the farthest and least populated of the habitable systems discovered yet.
With his thoughts quickly coming back under his own control he braced himself ready to get up from his comfortable slumber, as he rolled from his side the hologram lit into life at the foot of the bed and rapidly eveloped the entire room as the news presenter started to give him a live tour of the morning's news. Slowly Drake draws the bed sheet away and stands walks towards where the windows were as the bed itself disapears into the illusion the surrounds him.
"News Off" he interupts the broadcast in an irriated and interested tone, not taking any notice of the virtual scenery, and the reality of life floods back in to view in one quick blur of motion. He looks back out through at the view in front of him watching as the seemeingly small, yet gigantic ship finishes its slow and controlled descend to place the humongous payload in complete silence. Tiny specs of movement buzzing all around it, bearly visible at this range. The new inhabitants are quickly homed, as all through the day other transport ship will arrive into view ready to begin the same procedure over again. "Same *****, different day" he satires in critical mood as the windows rotate open and the low deep roar of noise cascades into room. It's time to go to work.
Standing at 6' 2" and 14st Drake is slightly out of place as a Signals Analyst, he had the physical attriubutes of the Interstellar Guards. Never being interested in violence of any sort he decided not to follow the staus-quo, despite the rewards that came as the four Super Powers battled for control of space, citizens and most importantly food. In a time where soldiers are bought the rewards for service had to be very tempting, but Drake always hoped that one day there would never be for military, especially when the human race was just 4 more unions away frombeing one and the same.
The last confrontation between any of the 4 remaining powers however had been documented over 10 years ago, and peace was now a prospect looked upon as more like a possiblity than hope. With the past being hard to bear, Drake's entire family was killed on Mars as the North American Alliance attacked Pan-Eurasian installations, it was a welcome sign that for once the human race can finally look to get along with each other and work together for the benifit of the species. Turning away from the view in front of him, two quiet clicks of noise filled the room.
"Answer", a small holographic screen appeared showing a live image of his colleague at the office of Stellar Scannings. "There had better be a good reason Dan why you are calling me before I start." The look Daniel's face gave a certain air of concern and there's a flurry of activity behind as large wall mounted monitors flickered with a mass of information that Drake could not understand, people moving quickly around the room between their workstations. Immediately Drake knew that this wasn't a call to say another habitable planet had been discovered.
"Drake, we don't know what is going on down here, we need you here as quick possible. About 3 minutes ago at 0531 local time, our scanners in orbit were looking at Pegasus 22B-2243, we were getting radiation readings, solar gravity..."
"Pegasus 22B is thousands of lightyears away, we can't get there..." Drake interrputed before being cut off himself
"We know, we know..." There was silence for a second, "look, there was a gamma ray burst coming from the vacinity and we were the only organisation who have the facilities right now available, we got radiation from the star, gravity, planetry bodies. Everything. But the gamma, it wasn't coming from the star, it was in the system we can guarantee that, but not the Star! Its like the Sun, and where are, its almost a direct match Cassiopiae!" Drake interrupted again
"Ok, ok. Calm down. Dan get to the point, and what the hell is going on there in the command centre?!" Darren starred at Drake, before finally breaking silence as Drake shouted. "Darren!"
"Its the gamma ray burst." Drake and Darren looked into each others eyes very briefly, there was a real look of fear in his colleagues eyes. Drake was confused."The gamma ray, it is screwing up all the systems here. We have all this stuff on the monitors you see behind me that we don't understand, it looks like jibberish, but it... it looks like some sort of code. What is goijg through the system, it looks like code. It uniform, structured, It's..., it's not something natural!"
Another agonising moment passed between the two men, and then in the backrgound of the holographic screen the monitors flickered once more as numerous symbols came into focus. The noise and activity inside the control centre stopped in one sudden event. Darren turned around on the hologrpahic screen in front of Drake, watching as the monitors had the entire room's attention. Nobody said anything, it was as if the time had stopped. The suspense had grown to bioling point. The monitor flickered once more. The symbols were all gone, they had been replaced. Instead there was a message, written in English. The signal must have been translating itself, using the computers on the colony to interpret itself to its intended recipients. The message was short, but disturbing.
"EVACUATE TO HOME PLANET.
WE WILL GET TO YOU AS FAST AS WE CAN.
THEY HAVE FOUND YOU."

There were two heavily clad guards at the end of the corridor, each carrying a large rifle. The entire complex was under lock down. As Drake approached them they proceed to test his identity, he knew he would be passed through but their appearance and one of them moving behind him made him feel nervous as they scanned his entire body by a laser built into the palm of their glove. As the beam moved lower the red colour instantly flashes green. The door in front opened immediately and he walked through relieved. He took in what was occurring in front of him, the entire room was up on their feet moving between desks in busy manner. His eyes became stuck on the huge holographs displays on the front wall displaying the cold and vague warning message. The room resembled NASA's Space Centre with its dark lighting and teams in their own area section running around. Darren was hanging over the shoulder of the Transmission team when he noticed Drake had entered the room.
"Drake! Thank god you here, everything is a mess”. Drake snapped back into life, and promptly walked towards his office room by the side wall, catching him up from the other side of the room Darren continued “The whole system is down and we don't know if it has spread across the network. Right now, we have had all external lines cut and the power and..."
“The Power? The displays, the lights, the stations, they are all on in front us." Drake interrupted.
"I know, its drawing the power from somewhere. That signal is still coming through roughly every minute so it could be getting its power direct. This virus is..."
"Virus?! Do we even know this is a virus, you said it came from 22B? This code, what is it doing?" Drake interrupted again. Darren stopped walking, and Drake stopped two steps ahead before looking back at his colleague and noticed a sigh. "Darren, what is it doing?"
"We don't know" he replied, almost admitting defeat against his own pride. "We are locked out, nothing is going out at all and the only thing coming through is the signal. Somehow it is drawing power, this room has been cut from the grid. Residual power has been drained. What we are seeing here... what this is... is impossible! The is no known power source in this room. I don't know what to do." Drake moved close up to Darren and put a reassuring arm around his shoulder and quietens the conversation.
“Don't panic, stay cool. This thing is definitely not local, and it isn't coming from us correct?"
“Yeah, that's right. This is not us doing this, and its not the others." They both look around the room, as people slowly begin to realise that there efforts are futile. "You need to tell Earth about this."
“Earth already knows I think, but I can't ring out to them." Drake draws eye contact again, before quietly proceeding. "Everyone in the city can see it. Everybody knows." A silence developed between them as they looked around the room. Darren broke the silence.
"The only place this should be happening is in here, or maybe someone else who looked at the Gamma Burst and took the data but we are the only ones who..."
The whole room was suddenly plunged into darkness and footsteps could be heard stopping abruptly, there was complete silence. A few seconds passed of complete blackout before every screen and hologram started to flicker in a crazy strobe light effect, flashing silhouettes of the workers looked like ghosts as the room remained completely silent. An eerie feeling was cast across the room and nobody knew how to react, and then suddenly the monitors, stations and lights bounced back into life. The silence was broken only when the entrance locks engaged again. The whole room just looked around not sure what to say.
"My station is back up" said a young male employee. Everybody went immediately back their seats.
"Mine too, I am back" said another. One by one all the station were back in control. The large holographic screens showed data being streamed from many star systems that were being scanned, then a few breaths after the lights went out they displays flickered again before near darkness and silence ensued once more. This time a new message appeared.

The whole team spilled out into street and a scene of total panic greeted them as tens of thousands of people were escaping from the corridor of skyscrapers, their screams echoed as the sound reverberated between the 200-storey buildings for over a mile into the sky. They all ran in the same direction and Darren stopped before the steps leading down to the walkway, he looked ahead to end of the corridor and could see a gigantic battleship landing at the edge of the city. Drake pushed against him to encourage him to continue moving but Darren put his arms on Drake's chest to stop him.
“Drake, their evacuating us! Down there the military are landing, you got to get everyone out of here!” Drake started to back away from his friend and boss, and darkness covered them and a near deafening noise erupted. They looked up as another huge battleship moved over head blocking out the bright sun. “I got to go get my girl! I'll find another way out!” Drake grabbed onto his shirt and pulled him back.
“She is with the agency! These guys will already be there getting all of them!” Drake shouted at the top of his until the long sleek behemoth ship has passed, the noise quietened and the screams could be heard once more.
“No I gotta go! Look, our Telecoms are down!” Darren managed to break free quickly to grab Drake arm, “I tried in there before we left, I have got to be with her! I'm her father for christ's sake! Don't worry we'll get out of here!” Drake was stunned but knew he couldn't stop him from going to find his six year daughter. He just looked at his friend not knowing what to do or say.
“Alright, I'll come with you...” But Drake was interrupted.
“No! You can't! Look you got to get them out of here!” Drake looked behind him as his team began leave his view in the mass of people running down the long walkway towards the landed ship. “Drake, you are responsible for them!” Drake looked back at Darren, all around them society had systematically broken down. Drake nodded in a state of disbelief and felt his body freeze up, he had a choice to make and he had to make it quick. Darren pushed Drake on one shoulder and ushered him down towards the crowd. “I am responsible for my girl, I am going to get her you can't stop me! You need to make sure they get back!” Drake suddenly became self-aware again and had another quick glance in the direction of his team.
“Alright... Ok...” Drake looked up to see an advertising board on a nearby skyscraper. The message on full display.
“Jesus Christ Darren we've got about 3 minutes!”
“I know!... It's going to take longer than that to reach your ship... Go! GO!” In despair Darren sighed. They looked at each other as fear began to take over both of them and together they wished each other luck and went their separate ways.

Don't worry, it will be up in a couple of days. If you know people who are disturbed easily... do not show them this thread, this story is already all planned out, just needs rewriting and things are going to become somewhat shocking.
Dude, post the next bit, please!!
The writing is amazing, I genuinely want to know what is happening!

This thread= awesomeness and by disturbed if you mean horror then tell me 'cause i HATE horror.
ah sorry, been really busy with everything and haven't posted the next part which I promise will come very soon.
By disturbing I mean extinction RedDragan style... not "Hollywood's toned down to make a 15/18 certificate" style.

Your spelling and grammer leaves a lot to be desired at times. A simple spell check would do wonders for you. You should write it out in a word document before you post it up here.
I've read bits and pieces of part 1 and it seems ok, besides the aforementioned mistakes.

Extinction Part 4: Countdown
Drake ran down the corridor of skyscrapers as quick as he could, he dodged and weaved between the people in the crowd who were all trying to get to the battleship ahead of them. He had finally caught up with a trailing member of his team and ahead the huge ship was now nearly twice the size it appeared before. Its long and rounded alloy frame now revealing the armada of gun turrets pointed upwards into the sky around the city. The huge beast stood as tall as a 30 story building and stretched back for a near kilometre. The nose of the ship had been raised to reveal a cavernous opening with hordes of civilians entering running up a massive ramp into the darkness.
Screams started to get louder again and Drake glanced up at the row of skyscrapers on the left and every billboard had the countdown ticking away, ETA 00:01:12.People were being knocked down to the ground in the stampede with everyone ruthlessly intent at getting to edge of the city as fast as they could.
“Come on f...ing move it!” Drake shouted at the young female. She spun her head round immediately and he noticed a stream of tears running down her face. She could barely run as her mind was beginning to break with all the panic and hysteria that had ensued the entire city. Without breaking a step Drake grabbed her small frame and hoisted her up and over his right shoulder, the young woman crying in near terror. They started to pass a cross section on the long walkway, looking down the both directions into the distance. There were other battleships landed and a roar erupted from above them, he looked up at 4 small fighters passing over head at great speed before they went out of view towards the horizon.
The battleship seemed to grow ever larger and yet was still no closer to him. The back of his legs began to burn as the strain of sprinting, dodging and carrying took its toll on his body and he fought as hard as he could to keep his sanity in the hell around him. From up in the sky soldiers began to rain down into the streets, at the speed of free fall they smashed into the ground as their metal-alloy body suits absorb the impact in a crouching position. Thunder and dust billowed out as each one landed on the planet like a silver bullet, every single one of them missing the people trying to escape. They assumed positions on the edges of the walkway motioning for everyone to continue on their way to military ship, Drake noticed their weapons were still concealed.
The movement of people had abruptly ground to halt as they reached the end of a rapidly growing queue to get onto the ship. Looking above the crowd in front of him, he saw thousands of people condensed into the bottleneck as the military personnel tried to contain the crowd. His whole body started to ache, and he looked down at the face of the young woman. She had stopped crying and looked deep in a state of shock as the event overwhelmed every emotion she could in her body. Drake looked up at the countdown which read ETA 00:00:12, his body suddenly went numb as time moved fast and he knew he would never get to the ship in time. A wall of sound hit them and he looked down the enormous queue, his breathe was sucked out of him as a total state of shock and horror overcame him. The ship was leaving the planet.
“Sh..t! Ok girl... ok... everythings going to be fine. Hold on to me ok! “ Anarchy erupted as everyone found themsleves trapped on the surface. He looked around to the soldiers, and tried to think of something to do as his mind raced like a merry-go-round, he turned around to look behind him to see the queue stretching back. Massive fights began to break out amongst the crowd, the crowd was loosing control. He looked to the soldiers again and pushed their way through the screaming crowd towards the edge of the walkway where the soldiers were lined up.
He reassured the girl as he strained to work out a plan, he didn't know what else to do. “We are just going by the military there ok girl, we're going to be ok, we'll be ok. Don't worry, we'll be alright"” he glanced up at the countdown... 4... 3... 2... 1... Instantly the air turned white and the ground shook violently, a shockwave smashed into them and they were thrown down hard onto the ground. The end of the world had just begun.
