Super Street Fighter IV

I'll come out and just say it, I've never played a Street Fighter game.

My fighting game experience consisits of Mortal Kombat 2. So my question is would Super Street Fighter IV be a good game for someone like me?

Is it easy to learn or will I have to put hours and hours into it before I get half decent? Will I need a fighting stick to get the best experience out of it? And finally, is it quite popular online? I think I've ever only seen 2 people on my FL on a Street Fighter game and by the sound of the lobby system it seems it would be better playing with friends.

Wow, that was more questions than I thought they'd be. Thanks in advance.

Re: Super Street Fighter IV

I'm still not sure if I like it or not. Not really played many fighters.

The game is simple to get started with and has a LOT of depth if you want to get right into it. I think to be decent you need to put a good amount of time into it, which I am going to try since it is a really good game.
I'm also not sure about a fight stick but if you just want to try the game first, I would wait.

As for the online, it's not any less of an experience if you're just on yourself. And you know what the forums are like, if you want to find friends for SSF4 you'll find plenty :smileyhappy:

I'd just get it anyway, it's only £21 in Tesco and you've likely just been paid. And cex are giving £16 trade in cash for it just now so even if you don't like it, it's unlikely you'll lose more than £10 so it's better than renting anyway.

Re: Super Street Fighter IV

I'll try break it down as much as I can:

SSF4 Is not like SF4 it doesn't just have new chars the online system is completely revamped and improved giving it that good online play. They've improved previous SF4 characters so that they can keep up competitively with the new chars they implemented. Each char is very versitile and no one can say that one char is weak now compared to the other it all depends on your skill with the char.

I'd say as a beginner at first it'll be a lil bit hard but practice makes perfect and you can pick it up pretty nicely. If your a new guy start with ken as he's easiest to use and learn to play with then move up to other chars you wanna try or just try be adventurous and pick a char you want.

As for using an arcade stick, compared to a 360 controller you have the advantage dpad on this game is pretty nice to use and get use to how to fight with characters, it's a very nice controller and you'll find it easy to pull off moves. If you want to get serious with the game even more so then by in time, yeah get an arcade stick, but that doesn't mean you can't be a great player and use a dpad! Good players can use dpads too don't ever get that twisted.

Online system on this is great, they improved it alot, more people will play player matches then rank because of endless lobby system, you can have up to 8 people playing and it's winner stay on. You can even do team battle as well which provides great fun. You can record your matches and watch them back, even upload them for people to watch, the system is so amazing in this game.

Training mode to practice skills and even a tutorial how to pull off moves and combo's for all the characters to help you get better. In training mode you can do a set certain move with the CPU so it constantly does that move if your having problems countering it online or you wanna block it more. This game is designed to help you get started and move further and further into a professional.

In short this game has improved alot since SF4 last year with the new characters and gaming modes and system available you can have fun on the low end and professional end of this game and you can only get better, just enjoy the game and your skill will increace through time.

Re: Super Street Fighter IV

Cheers chaps, all the reviews you read seem to be aimed at SF fans and not someone new to the franchise.

It seems cheap enough, I think I'll pick it up. About time I tried something other than a shooter lol.

Re: Super Street Fighter IV

Yeah, I felt like a bit of an outsider reading reviews on this and SF4 since I can't really remember playing the old ones. But I can appreciate where all the 10/10 reviews are coming from.

It's good you decided to go for it :smileyhappy: I'll add you if that's ok, because I suck balls at it so it will give you a confidence boost :smileytongue:

be warned though migrating to arcade stick from d pad is not easy, i am still not used to it myself, using ken is ok but the only problem with ken is that when he does a dragon punch you are widely open to counter attacks when you go up in the air, i would suggest sakura, her dragon punches are smaller and she does a few in a row, also her move set and ultra is much easier to handle. i would also suggest NOT to go online and fight against other players, they will simply run you down, especially a beginner player like you, just complete arcade mode first and do some of the trials so you can get used to the characters moves first before you go online.

D'you mind if I add you? After 15 losses and 1 win I think it would be better to have some even competition lol.

Re: Super Street Fighter IV

SSF4 noobs can add me.

Ironically, I grew up playing SF2 Championship Edition in the arcades a rocked hard enough to complete everytime with 20p with most characters, so I should be at least decent at this. But I'm not. I'm rubbish. I can barely pull of the special moves, the supers elude me entirely and I have won one game in about 30.

It familiar enough that I know how to play it in theory, be its different enough and I'm rusty enough that I feel like i'm learning from scratch

This is very true. I'm not the best player in the world by any stretch of the imagination but going from standard controller to the arcade stick (I have the offical SF4 fightstick which I got along with the original SF4 last year. I now have got rid of SF4 in favour of the Super variant) and I went from being average to shockingly bad. I now consider myself average again lol.

On the other hand even though the learning to use an arcade stick takes a lot of time and effort it does make the game feel much more authentic after using one for a few sessions there really is no going back. I also found pulling off some of the more complex moves a bit easier with the stick. Just be prepared to take some serious hammerings while you get accustomed to it.

If anyone fancies a few training sessions to help imrove do add. We could even start a winner stays on or team battle if we get enough involved :smileyhappy:
