Best and worst FF soundtracks?

Tbh I dont even know why I´m asking this question from you guys because everyone in the world knows that FF8 has the best soundtrack in FF history, if not in the history of video games.

The regular battle theme is amazing, gives you that time to kick ass feeling. The boss theme is the best song in video game history. Fast paced, overwhelming. Towns have funky keys and bass lines, timed segments have frantic music, and the end game bosses have a succession of one flawless track ater another. Soundtrackwise the only game that can compare to FF8 is Chrono Trigger.

As for the worst, FF10 is a pretty obvious winner for me. The battle and boss themes are uneventful and stale, the Jecht theme has to be one of the worst things (yes, things, not just songs) ever, and nothing really stands out as even remotely good. FF13 comes close to this in badness, but at least the tracks are a little catchy.

Whats your take?

I like 13's soundtrack o_O, sounds different but kept the classics, such as the chocobo song (which his AMAZINGLY catchy, lol.) One song  I don't like on 13, is the final boss theme *Spoiler* Born Anew *Spoiler*, itsounds like it tried to be epic and opera like, like 6,7, and 8's final boss, if I remember correctly and failed... epically.

10's was bad, To Zanarkand was brilliant though, 6 is my favourite... by 500 lightyears, every song on that game was perfect, in each and every way, one of the best soundtracks to any game, ever.

Re: Best and worst FF soundtracks?

I think all of the soundtrack have had their good and bad points. I do think final fantasy vi had one of the best though - I like the way that Uematsu tried to assosciate certain characters and objects with certain themes of music, and I think Hamauzu tried to bring some of that over into FFXIII. One thing I love about XIII's is the great blend of trance type songs whilst maintaining the orchestral beauty at emotional moments. I don't think any of the games have had a bad soundtrack, just some have not stood out as well as others - FFXII was much more ambient in it's music for example, you never really noticed that it was there except from a select few songs.

Great point, FFVI really does stand out but the majority of Uematsus FF work is simply exceptional. However the FF XIII battle theme, as the most heard piece in the game MUST make it the worse in my opinion.

This must be the first time I've ever seen anyone bashing the FFX soundtrack...

Final Fantasy X has one of the best soundtracks ever made to any kind of videogame.

Final Fantasy VIII's one is not "the best ever" to everyone, not even close, it's a very arguable point.

I have to agree, I thought X has a brilliant soundtrack.

Re: Best and worst FF soundtracks?

I understand that music is just about the most subjective thing in the world but I just cant spot a single great track in FFX. I mean the tracks really have no progression and never seem to change. one song in that game basically consists of one riff. Thats my take at least.

Re: Best and worst FF soundtracks?

Well this is the first time I've ever seen anyone claiming that.

In my view the FFX soundtrack is a masterpiece, it's very diverse and every different piece of music fits pretty well in the contexthe action and story that is happening.
