Darth (Iluvatare) throws in the towel (FFXIII)...

Hey there all!! Occassionally I come on to the forum to tell everyone the wonderous news that I have managed to get another Platinum (no not unique, big or clever)! This is the first time, since I have owned the PS3, that I have actually given up on a game through sheer tedium. In the past I  have taken games back before gaining the Platinum because I wanted to trade them in for another game; I just had too many to play at once or I simply didn't like them.

I enjoyed FFXIII up until the end. I wanted to Platinum the game to have that stamp of approval on the Trophy list. But last night, I just gave up. Having got all the way to the 55th Mission and 5 starring all of the others, I realised that I needed to max. out the characters.

The incremental experience point system means that at the higher level of the crystarium, the amount of xp you need becomes huge. Even with the well known cheat involving the creatures respawning in the central expanse (the Chocobo; the cut-scene;  the pre-emptive strike; killing them; then running back up the hill to the Chocobo and then repeat, until your sick of the sight of the game) the whole xp thing just got ridiculous.

Perhaps there was a chance to re-start the whole game with the saved data, but I doubt it.

I loved the graphics, the sound and everything - but even the best graphics in the world can't stop the tedium of repeating a given sequence over and over again or even slight variations on sequences you have done a hundred times before.

In my opinion both the leveling up system and the trophies should have been balanced with a more realistic game time expenditure.

The good news was, that trading in FFXIII at GameStation for 'Castlevania - Lord of Shadows', netted me both an xtra £5 on the trade-in price and £3 on my loyalty card.

If you like collecting platinum trophies and RPG games. You should try Demon Souls. Classic game with very good gameplay. I got the platinum the other day but it took me 170 to do it :smileysad:.

Who's Darth?

Ditto, FFXIII's leveling up after the main game ending is way too tedious and I eventually gave up. Maybe I'll go back to it at some point, but I still have way too many other games to play!

Sony are stabbing their loyal family customers in the back - We have 2 PS3s and 3 PSPs all on the same IP address and all registered with Sony. Why can't we use them at the same time anymore?

So you didn't like the fact you have to grind on an RPG?

Even more so:

You didn't like the fact you have to grind on a Final Fantasy game?

/facepalm.

Edit: By the way, it takes about 120 hours to Platinum on average, which isn't too bad. Some people have apparently even done it in 60-70.

The most time consuming part of it is getting all the weapons. You should start farming adamantoise now so you can farm and level at the same time. I don't think you'll have the patience for it though, since the levelling pales in comparison :smileysad:

10+ hours of doing exactly the same thing didn't appeal to me. The rest of the game's grinding was more than acceptable so why make it so tedious to get the platinum!!
