The PS3 uses software to emulate it's older games unlike the orginal Japanese and American PS3's which used hardware therefore the orginal version of VIII doesn't work at all while only Disc 4 of the Platinum version doesn't work.

Hi all,

I've been playing my ps1 copy of FF8 and have just got to disc 4 with all weapons, gf's etc but disc 4 wont work!

i have tried 3 different copies of the game and all just wont seem to play.

Its highly annoying but i just wondered if anyone else had this problem or weather its just my ps3 being gay!

Pls share my pain

the disc 4 doesnt work on ps3's thats why the psn version is so popular.

I just recently started playing Final Fantasy VIII on ps3 as well. I just got to the end of the first disk and i got prompted "please insert disk 2" but then the game will not go on. It is downloaded so obviously I don't have a disk. It will just keep giving me an error saying "wrong disk". Has anyone else had this problem?

You obviously failed to read the description on the PlayStation Store:

"About switching discs: At certain points in the game you will be asked to switch discs, when this occurs press the PS/Home button and then select Switch Discs from the screen that is displayed. Then select the disc you are asked to switch."

Old thread I know, but I just wanted to add something.

I just borrowed the original "black disc" version off a colleague and it doesnt load for me either!

HOWEVER, FF7, 8 and soon 9, are on the playstation store, and they're only £8 each lol. I've seen some on amazon for £150, so I reckon just download them.

They work perfectly, without any stutter or sound problems, AND if you have a PSP you can play it on there as well... makes me want to buy a PSP actually. Play at home, WOAH, time to go to work, but no worries, I can continue to game on the bus!

Just my 2 pence.

ive just completed the 1st 2 discs and it came up insert disc 3 and a pused ps button n change discs etc and a inserted it and it says wrong disc and ave done it with another copy off ffviii's disc 3 and same thing

I had a similar problem with the swirly battle camera. It never moves unless using a GF.

My biggest problem is "switching" to disc 2. It asks me to switch to disc 2, so I assume pressing any button will just continue the game. It tells me "Wrong Disc." What am I supposed to do?

^^ This is what you're meant to do.

Do we know why this is not going to be fixed as Final Fantasy players/collectors should not be restricted.

Playstation should fix this and make it playable!!!!!!
