FF13 is the only ff game i have never completed, far too linear and constrictive. most other franchises have become more free-roaming but ff have gone backwards instead. I remember PS1 being fit to burst with ground-breaking RPGs like FF7 and Vagrant Story, how times have changed!!
Oh how I agree and understand you here. Irony, Sakaguchi left after FFX, then Square met another crisis and FF went wrong since 2003, with Enix's "take over". I doubt we will see something like FFVII ever, I mean I hardly believe they will achieve that level, but oh well.Oh look another Nostaligia hugging ***** who can't accept change.
I really can't be bothered to post my post defending FF XIII anymore, let alone write up why FF VII isn't the best FF out.
And who said FFVII is the best? I said that new FF can't be like old good ones, it doesn't have to be the same, but at least, they could keep the soul of FF, if you know what I mean.
And yet, chill out dude, you are too psychic, it can be bad for you or your girlfriend/wife.
I doubt we will see something like FFVII ever - This implies you think FF7 is the best.
FF is ALL about change. What do you mean by the soul of FF? Turn based combat? You mean the turn based combat that is incredibally outdated? The only reason turn based combat was there to begin with was due to limitations of hardware.
Looks like you didn't get it at all.
All right, I will say this "I doub't we'll see something like FFVIII ever", any better?
And if you still didn't get it, no, I am not saying FFVII is the best.
Sure FF games MUST change, but in a good way. I agree, they change, but how badly it goes, these changes lead nowhere.
We had major changes since FFVII... its place took FFVIII with new features, then we had FFIX, again with something new, finally we got the revolutionary FFX, almost new game, very different from previous series, but notice... all those games were AMAZING.
What we have now? FF with a good story? NO! FF with remarkable characters? NO! FF with full of mystery, world map with loads of secrets and side-quests? NO!
We have some shitty FFXIII, lacking many things which could be kept, saving the old tradition. They even changed the Prelude theme!!! I'm not saying the OSTs in the game are crap, but can't compare 'em to all those legendary soundtracks, composed by Uematsu!
I disliked the battle system too, maybe somebody likes it, not me.
One thing developers could achieve for sure, that's graphics, no doubt, but do we all play games for grapchics, I don't think so.
Admit it, Enix could make the game better, saving something old, adding something new. In the result we could get a decent FF game.
You seem to think Square Enix are obliged to 100% guarantee thay every game they make is a genre changing master piece with an incredible story, perfectly balanced gameplay, perfectly written OST with outdated turn based combat.
They managed to make them awesome 15 - 10 years ago, why won't now? I don't ask for a perfect game, I ask about a good FF, which will keep attract people.
Now don't get me wrong, but if you visit youtube, there are many people who'll say old ***** were much better. That means that people only have good memories with oldies (mostly), well maybe newbies or teens who used to great graphics will agree that FFXIII is a masterpiece, people who only started playing FF, also will say that FFXIII is a God-like game.
And once again, I repeat... I am not saying that FFXIII is a total failure, but it could be much, much and much better, admit that.
For a God sake I can play some damn FFX-2 which was also awful for me, but at least it's playable!
FXIII... I did insert the game, I liked the opening scene (not Prelude xD), then the first 30 minutes were kinda odd, tutorials, first boss battle, etc. Then, I couldn't continue anymore with all those runnings a.k.a "here is the arrow for you, you go there and examine some *****". Meh, that game isn't for me, that's all. So I think it's pointless to discuss the things 2 men opposite of.
So you didn't even give the game a chance, played 30 minutes of a game which was reported well before to be over 40 hours for the story? And every game ever released could've been much much better. I've never played a perfect game.

Of course I played the game for a long time, to get used to it, the battle system was awful for me, didn't like it at all. Those games defo were better, maybe when FFXX will come out and it will be totally a failure, I will say FFXIII was better, but let's hope they'll stop producing FF games or return it original style.
There is no any perfect game out there, BUT... there are many games close to perfection.
