FIFA 12 Formation help.

Hello. I have been re-directed here, from my original post in another forum so I will try here.

This is my post from the EA Sports forum, hoping I can get a better reaction here from a forum more popular and active.

Hello everyone. I am the manager of Chelsea in my career mode, about to end the 2014/2015 season.

My problem (sort of) is that I find myself constantly toying with formations and players in my starting 11. I started of using the default Chelsea formation which is the 4-3-3 with the CDM and front 3. I keep finding myself changing to the formation that I think suits my preferred style which is the 4-2-3-1 with two holding CDM an attacking 3 centre midfielders behind the one striker. The problem here lies with the talented squad that I have, many of them were bought with the default formation in mind and most of there prefered postions are in the 4-3-3 and some of them cant play in the positions that I would like and I am struggling to make the 4-2-3-1 formation work.

This is my squad

Goalkeepers - Courtois and Dupire (loanee)

Defenders (RB or players I prefer to play RB) Ivanovic, Bosingwa and Bruma.
Defenders (CB or players I prefer to play CB when needed) - Terry (c), Silva, Cahill, Romeu and Bruma
Defenders (LB or players I prefer to play LB when needed) - Bale, Alba and Bertrand

Midfielders (CDM or players I prefer to play CDM when needed) Martinez, Romeu, Mikel and Felliani

Midfielders (CM or players I prefer to play CM when needed) Hamsik, Modric, Ramires, Sigurdsson, McEachran, Fellaini

Attacking wingers (LW or RW or players I choose to place there) Hazard, Mata, Hulk, Sturridge, Lavezzi, Sigurdsson, Marin.

Centre striker (* or players I choose to place there) Cavani, Hulk and Sturridge.

Players out on loan - Piazon, Williams and Lukaku.

Is there any suggestions as to how I can lay these players out to play in the 4-2-3-1 formation.

Re: FIFA 12 Formation help.

Thank you for your response.

I do like Romeu as a player, and Felliani never lets me down. I have a thing for Mikel though, he plays the defensive role beautifully and can read the game superb and has great strength, just looking for hints and tips, at the moment.

You see I have so many options its difficult. Modric is 29 and a fantastic player for me, and as his value is always dropping I was going to cash in on him to free up sums. Manchester United are always coming in for him and his goals and assists are excellent so far this season. I would like to see Hazard play in the Modric role you have stated... Hulk as the lone striker is a good call!

Re: FIFA 12 Formation help.

Maybe try out Hazard in the Modric role then, and if it works, then you can sell Modric.

Re: FIFA 12 Formation help.

Hamsik though is brilliant on the ball though, Mata, for all his stats are superb and he is a great footballer, is a slight weak link as a left winger. He lacks strength (which is what Chelsea are known for) and gets knocked of the ball easily. I might bite the bullet and sell. Going forward and finding space is difficult for me with Mata. I think his goals and assists over my 4 seasons are yet to hit double figures yet his value has always remained high.

Re: FIFA 12 Formation help.

You should play Mata behind the main striker IMO - that's where he doesn't need strength and should be setting up the striker for most of his goals. Lavezzi on the left is a no brainer, Modric should be good enough on the right.

I don't rate Hazard that much - he seems a little 'off' to me.

Re: FIFA 12 Formation help.

So what line up would you recommend in a 4-2-3-1? The standard 4-3-3 is giving my wingers less than 5 touches a game and for the players I have it just is not right.

Anyone else care to join in the conversation? Changes from last post are that I sold Mata for a cool 38 million after he became home sick and I believe Sturidge may be leaving. Thinking about selling a few of my squad players too while there value remains high. Modic has been sold too.
