I have had the same issue guys. And I got a replacement disk, yet the problem remained. So I sort of guess it was maybe a possible corruption in the fifa 09 game and save data. But before deleting I tried one more possible solution. This was reallocating controller 2 (when in multiplayer) to controller 3. And since doing this, it hasnt frozen once. Must be to do with corrupt second player profile or something?

change your ps3 controller to no 3 or any other number but No 2
