Hello,
To solve your connection issue you need to forward the Fifa ports on your router. Type your routers IP address into your URL bar. If you don't know it use command prompt by selecting 'run' then type 'command' and then on the command prompt type 'ipconfig/all'. The part titled 'Default Gateway' is your router IP.
Once into your routers configuration page find the heading marked 'Virtual Servers' and enter the following 2 ports as UDP, 6000 + 3659, if you wish you can also enter the old Fifa ports 3658+3478+3479+5223. Then you need to forward them to your PS3 IP address.
To manually configure your IP address on your PS3 go to Network settings and select manual for IP settings. Enter an IP like 192.168.1.80 (anything for last number between 1-100) all the other information can be obtained by the proccess in paragraph 1 of this text.

i solved this problem by deleting any and all fifa related data from my ps3...
not sure why the problem happened, it could have been something funny saved from ingame incorectly...
my other thought is that posibly it happened when i backed up everything and switched to a 500gb hdd, but i thought i got this game after i did that so i donno.
anyway thats how you can fix it.

Shouldn't have to mess about with your router this has been an ongoing problem with EA sports games for a long while now. I think its down to which NAT type you are. If it isn't the same as the person you are trying to play you cant get passed the team selection screen. I think this is why a lot of the time when you try to play a head to head match against random people it also happens its not people just quitting at the team selection screen.

From experience of users reporting similar things on the EA forum it seems that a number of them have been struggling when using BT as their ISP and having one of the old BT Homehubs (2.0 Type A). Moving to a Type B or Netgear / other router has yielded much better results.
As for the "can't play FIFA but can play CoD etc", this is largely due to the types of connections these games use. FIFA works on a peer-2-peer basis so you are directly connecting to your opponent whilst CoD doesn't as you connect to a server.

I used to have a BT Homehub. I switched to O2 and I still have the same problem.
