Re: New FIFA 12 controls what were they thinking?!

I don't particularly like them either. I've given them a chance and I can win pretty easily on World class.

It's just it makes it so you have to sit back a lot and wait for an attacking error which is more realistic yeah it's just not as fun.

No doubt over time I will get better and learn to love them!

Re: New FIFA 12 controls what were they thinking?!

I don't like having one playing style forced on me defensively or attack wise (Which it is if you have any hopes of online/club play). And with the way it is now, with it's new slow and "methodical" pace, pressuring is a recipe for failure next to sitting back and waiting. :smileysad:

I've made a genuine attempt at trying to love the new controls and find enjoyment in them and I just can't. I thought that was because I don't know how to use it yet or that I'm just bad, but after getting to grips with it and stopping teams consistently and effectively, it still comes across as really boring. It's essentially "parking the bus" in front of your opponent which is really boring to watch and do in both games and real life. I also don't understand how or why they've made it so that if you chose to make a standing tackle, it's a commitment and you either get the ball, get the ball and be called for fouling or lose the player completely and watch as he runs off into the distance. That's not the point of a standing tackle in the slightest.

I'm still trying to convince myself that there's some enjoyment to be had in this new system. Will post if anything changes. :smileysad:

Jesus christ, I may be speaking complete bull here but how can you's not like the new defending? If you watch any football match and compare it to football games you should notice that teams don't defend by 'holding x' and pressuring the ball 100% of the time, It annoys me that gamers ask for amazing graphics and realisteic gameplay and then they do not appreciate this effort to move the football game genre forward.... Personally I enjoyed the new defending code that has been implemented and appreciate that EA have took the game a step forward... Tbh if it wasn't for this 'new defending' what would fifa 12 bring to us? Improved graphics maybe and an online mode that i'm personally not interested in? I'm sure we all grow to get used to this 'new defending' as a normallity so keep practicing on that demo!

Teams don't defend by pressing square in real life either.

Re: New FIFA 12 controls what were they thinking?!

The button's not the point.... The point is that teams don't press 100% of the time (like people do online by just holding x) the point is that this itteration of the game allows for a more realistic experience as you can't just run at people and dive into tackles otherwise you get punished....

Re: New FIFA 12 controls what were they thinking?!

I'm not a fan of the new defending style, but after some practice the other team hardly break through on goal. I'm still not very good at it but at least they're not getting past me as easily.

My main problem now is the pace of the game. As someone said, you pretty much "park the bus" infront of goal. When I do this the other team spend about 35-40 minutes (game time oc) passing the ball about in midfield and back to defence. The thing is will people who want to play short halfs be punished with boring A.I build up play. Imo the pace of the game should reflect the length of the halfs. Shorter halfs and the A.I should push up a bit faster and make riskier passes. Longer halfs and they hold the ball up a bit more like in the demo.

Just a thought.

I know, and I'm well aware of that, and that's not how I played Fifa 11. I did not just hold x. The irony of this whole situation is that I was a massisve user of containing. The difference is that I had the abillity to mix pressure and containment effectively, and I enjoyed doing so because it worked with higher level players who just dance around people who "just hold x". This is not the case here anymore. Pressure is the most effective and quickest way to get the ball back in real football when done right (e.g Barcalona, even if I do hate them it's a perfect example) whereas in game, it's not at all. They've pretty much nerfed its effectiveness. If you want to bring realism into it, variety and balance in defending tactics, to me should be an option like it is for most teams.

Also, you do not get punished for diving into tackles.. I've gone in from ever possible angle and 90% of the time they skip past you like you're just another blade of grass or like they're a direct disendant of Lionel Messi . If you want realism, that shouldn't be the case either. And neither should the commiting standing tackle.

I understand you have to get close to them to be able to tackle cleanly and effectively, but by the time I get there after my shimmy containment dance, the ball is already off to the next player. I suppose if they remastered the "tackle" button and gave a wider birth to where you can press it to approach the opposing player, rather than sticking a leg out like you're doing a pre-game stretch, I'd have less of an issue with the ability to pressure as it is now. And I'm not talking about being able to press it from the other side of the pitch like in fifa 11 :smileytongue:

Anyway, just my two pence.

Re: New FIFA 12 controls what were they thinking?!

I completely agree that FIFA 12 is far more realistic and much more rewarding than the awful awful defending of 11, notice how your defenders don't stupidly run against the flow of play and that the usual exploits that madethe game incredibly refine have been addressed. I wasn't a pressure defender in 11 I used tactical defending pretty much so I love the new style. Also remember that all the teams in the demo are top flight teams. I don't think the Holyoke or west brooms will play like that. I swear to god they better keep tactical defending in the future because I can see all the butt hurt exploit players complaining and them reverting...

Barcelona do. If I use Barcelona, i expect to be able to pressure as intensive as they do. If I can't, that's not realistic. It's as simple as that really.
