And to clarify, I do think that the developers have taken good steps in suring up defensive gameplay in Fifa, I just think they've sacrificed the ability to apply high pressure effectively. A mix of evenly effective defensive tactics is what I'd be prepared to call realistic.

I know, and I'm well aware of that, and that's not how I played Fifa 11. I did not just hold x. The irony of this whole situation is that I was a massisve user of containing. The difference is that I had the abillity to mix pressure and containment effectively, and I enjoyed doing so because it worked with higher level players who just dance around people who "just hold x". This is not the case here anymore. Pressure is the most effective and quickest way to get the ball back in real football when done right (e.g Barcalona, even if I do hate them it's a perfect example) whereas in game, it's not at all. They've pretty much nerfed its effectiveness. If you want to bring realism into it, variety and balance in defending tactics, to me should be an option like it is for most teams. 

Also, you do not get punished for diving into tackles.. I've gone in from ever possible angle and 90% of the time they skip past you like you're just another blade of grass or like they're a direct disendant of Lionel Messi . If you want realism, that shouldn't be the case either. And neither should the commiting standing tackle. 

I understand you have to get close to them to be able to tackle cleanly and effectively, but by the time I get there after my shimmy containment dance, the ball is already off to the next player. I suppose if they remastered the "tackle" button and gave a wider birth to where you can press it to approach the opposing player, rather than sticking a leg out like you're doing a pre-game stretch, I'd have less of an issue with the ability to pressure as it is now. And I'm not talking about being able to press it from the other side of the pitch like in fifa 11

You can change it back? How? 

Before it was the same as it is now, except you just run alongside them and tap X when you want to go for the tackle. I do like how the AI now try to intercept more often but the fact that the 'containmnet' has you standing too far away from the player to attempt a tackle, and if you do attempt one it's a 50/50 (if this is last man this is really crap). 

As a result I usually just focus on containment till they make a mistake. Which makes play kinda boring for them invariably as there's no opportunity to take any of my defenders on when I'm holding X. Pretty crappy system.

I used to use the jockey a lot to defend so I thought this new defending would be good but having played it for a few days now i'm sick of it. Not really because of the defending more the fact that when in and around my 18 yard box every single CPU pass and control on the ball is perfect. It's like a team of Lionel Messi's up front. They move the ball with such ridiculous precision it's incredible. It is fine against friends because they don't have that perfect control of the ball but against the CPU it becomes a tedious exercise. I'm considering going down in difficulty or switching to the legacy defending because at the moment I HATE this game and regret paying money for it.

I dont like it either, playing 11 and world cup relaxes me, this game does not relax me it make's me angry.  I'm gonna give it another 3 days, if I dont get the hang of the controls I'm gonna go back to playing world cup and 11...

I like the new fifa controls it makes the game a lot more fairer
