Yup, I speak the truth.
Had a practice session earlier with Nac and Phoenix.
Tyres are definitely a struggle.
If you want to run Super Softs for 5 laps you are going to have to be ...
... or else forget about it.
I bring you all Good News, well good for me.
As you may be aware... I have issues with my Steering Wheel, it has a calibration problem that is basically wrecking my Game play. The wheel will not self calibrate at all... I can however do a manual calibration to get the wheel recognised to the game, but in doing so... this results in various degrees of FFB strength.
Few days ago, this FFB returned for a few hours resulting in some better lap times... but the majority of the last few weeks the FFB has been non existent at all or just varies from strength to strength... some days you can spin the wheel with the lightest of touch (basically your little finger, like the unit is turned off). This makes driving with a wheel very difficult. I can drive a lap and never know what will happen at the next corner.. e.g. Will FFB kick in, will I have to turn against some force or not.. will this force give up halfway around the corner etc.. I've tried to adapt and think I've done a pretty good job.
Anyways, I've been in correspondence with Thrustmaster for the last week and a bit... and have just received some good news.... The wheel will be shipping back for repair.. I'm currently waiting for their delivery information.
I can race tonight, and perhaps next week.... depends on how quickly Thrustmaster proceeds.
As I've only ever used a controller to play these games for about 10 mins... just to see how a controller worked... I'm doubtful that I will race with one. I've no idea how long this repair will take.. could be days or a month. They might even just send a replacement unit...
I don't really have any contacts on my list that can take my place for a while... so, if anyone knows of any others that can fill in for a while... that would keep the Grid full.
I would have liked to race every week, but it doesn't look like this will happen now... so apologies for this.... getting my wheel fixed is more important to me right now. Hopefully, Thrustmaster can do this fix quickly.
Ah. And there’s me hoping to get to beat you while you used a pad 😅
Suppose the repair could be held up by Xmas, either that or they’ll get you a quicker turn around to make sure it’s done before the holidays 🤞@S2N-Ava
Literally anyone could do better on a pad than me... Never had a reason to use one (not for PS3/4).. bought a wheel back when GT5 came out... used one ever since.... all my previous driving games were on PS1 which had no support for wheels. Wasn't great back then anyways... can't see that improving with current Gen, even with all aids on. I'd just get in the way of everyone else.
I'm not that quick really, you've got chances... Even with a fully working wheel, I'll be a couple of seconds or more off the top lap times. The car will at some stage go off track, it has done for most of the testing. Tuesday's testing has proven to be my best, that has been the only day in weeks that the wheel has given me more of a feel instead of just the vagueness it has been doing. The FFB really does make a big difference.
Tonight is hit 'n' miss to whichever Ava turns up... either be a quite a quick ride or picking stones out of the tyres every other corner. Thinking it will be the latter, I've no confidence and it's effecting how I'm driving. I'll be in a better, more happy space when the wheel is fixed.@el-ve
Oh no! It's Thursday already. And I've not done a lap yet. Well, if we ignore the few laps I did before setting up the championship.
I better jump on this afternoon and see how the car feels around here. And sort out some pit and fuel strategy.
Hoping to see another full grid this evening. And as a heads-up. I've not tested to see if the qualifying issue is still happening. So I recommend that when I say 1 minute until race starts. We all make sure we are on track and did first sector.
Me neither tbh.
Go in cold like me, best way XD@RenegadeXtreme
I did the circuit experience earlier, then some laps in the car
Crashed a lot...
I think its going to be a voyage of discovery for most of us
Race report time from me, after 2 aborted starts which i almost hit @PSDazmaniac x 2 after the new lobby was done it was green flag. I think I went off at Denger, then spoon then followed Mightyogi off at Denger then I was overtaking cars that went off track.
Lap 5 came around and that cued pit stop then it was time to let the leaders lap me. When Gus got to me I was following MighyYogi and took full use of Gus passing Mighty by me doing the same thing. 4 laps later I went off at the last turn and thought i ended 15th but game told me otherwise for some odd reason
for some reason there seemed to be a bit of a glitch during the race where el-ve was showing as 16thafter lap 5, and with a lap missing until crossing the finish line at the end, where it correctly put him back in position.
Not sure if it was that for you too, but shows up on my replay like that as well. I'm guessing it could be that?@skells22
yep, it show up on my replay as well.@PhoeniX-J-five
An enjoyable race event this Night... good fun.
Quali went so much better than I could have possibly foreseen... All week, I've had major issues just keeping the car on track and seeing some players putting in 2'07 (which is blaady quick) was disheartening at best. I was in a Lobby created by Tassie moments earlier and the wheel feeling was non existent... Joined Ren's room and the wheel kicked back to life... not full feeling, but enough to make my lap times better.... and came up with a 2'08 for a starting Position of #5..... brilliant.
Then we had the Lobby problems and finally a new Lobby was created. This 2nd Lobby effected the wheel a little, still had some feeling, but it was not as strong.. Knew this race would not be as easy as had we stayed in the 1st Lobby.
First few laps were oki... couldn't keep Phoenix behind me, his gearbox seemed like it was pulling better than mine, so demoted down a place... did well to keep with him. Came into the Pits on Lap 5 like most of the other drivers and replaced my boots with a fresh set and overfilled slightly to make sure of getting to the line. Actually made a place from the stop which was a little surprising.
These new boots did not feel as good as the first set, seemed to have a lot less grip, think Phoenix may have had the same problem, as he left the track and gifted me 4th.
Tip toeing around for the last few laps in 4th spot, hoping I'd not make any errors... had a nervous moment overtaking Skells when he moved over to the racing line, I quickly moved my car over and narrowly missed him.
Final lap, the tyres were pretty much evil. Came across our Lord Ross and then came a bodge job around the very tight 2nd gear corner, grip went away and onto the grass... me screaming at me car... being polite and saying. WHY, WHY, WHY... YOU IDIOT (not LRoss)... back on track and just gifted a well earned 4th... couldn't see me loosing that from the final few corners... but there it is... S* happens. Lol
Brought it back home in 6th.... great result considering my frame of mind all week.
And now to get the wheel fixed, hopefully they can do it quickly.. I really want to see how this game works with a wheel that works as it should.
Report done.... can upload me video if anyone wishes to have a laugh at my stupid mistake.
Great job for all the people ahead of me,,, practice paid off.
Although there was problems getting started and even after getting demoted with @el-ve 2 grid positions, el-ve qualifying 8th and me 9th being set in grid to 10th & 11th for the race that worked I can live with the result and can say I am having such a blast with you guys, also this little Toyota is just an absolute dream to drive.
Two races in and I have to say it’s my new favourite.
Yes... it's a awesome little car..
Whoever said that you need big powerful cars to have a blast around tracks should be shot..
It not only does it look good, but it drives just as hot.... #Lovin'In this Toyota
Apologies for putting yourself and @el-ve in the wrong positions on the grid. But I was live streaming the event. And looked back to see what the qualifying results were. So used what the game had told me.
Happy to hear your enjoying the event, and racing with us all though. That's the main thing@NOZonline
Not the best race for me.
Prior to joining lobby I was attempting to beat a score on circuit training on Nurbergring. Going from that to this Toyota at Suzuka it felt like I was driving on ice. As a result I didn't dare get off the Super Soft Tyres. Although I noticed my partner was sporting the same set so that's fine. It did mean I would have to pit twice again.
As for the race, well I sucked. I could have and should have done a lot better but I just kept making silly errors. Just when I think I got things sorted, I go and spin.
Sods law just as I was getting into swing of things the race ended. Not before the leading pack was passing me. Sorry guys, I will let you past but I aint gonna slow down to a crawl for you. Renegade, I'm looking at you, flashing me with ya lights. Yes I know you wanna overtake, if you can, do it. I will keep to my side of road for sure but wont be laying out red carpet for you.
Talking of overtaking, kudos for the front two cars, Tassie and Nac, passed me at speed and very smoothly.
Gus though, you followed me into the sand pit lol.
I concur with skells or was it smokey, that the standings at end was a bit off. It had el-ve as being last and then suddenly he jumped up several places. That was strange. Good though, had me worried for a bit.
Ross, if you have time.... sure you are very busy elsewhere... but try to practice more with us if you can... really does make the difference.
Lap after lap, I was off that track more times than I can guess in practice... perhaps mostly because of my wheel issue, perhaps bad settings came into play.
I was surprised at how well I drove last night, until that last tight corner trying to get past ya.
I should have gone in a little slower, I already knew that the second set of boots were not giving me the same level of grip as my first set... perhaps I cooked them on my out lap..
Anyways, you gave me plenty of room to get past, me going off track was my own doing. The grip just wasn't there for the speed I was going into that corner. I never learn to take the safe option... actually didn't want to slow down much more than I needed to with Phoenix breathing down my neck with just a few corners to go... Had 4th rapped up if I could stick to tarmac.
I've watched most of the drives from each car... and looked good.... I'd just like to say to the slower people on track... just practice more and it will come..... I've improved so much over the years with driving with these guys... from where I started in NASCAR all those years ago.... right corners were Alien to me.
Tassie has a room open most days/nights...
That was cutting it fine LOL
Funny thing, I looked at all the cars going into the Pits on the replay...
The level of fuel consumption was varied... throttle and gearboxes, coasting into corners etc making this very varied between players.
Ren was in front of me going into the Pits, I was in front, coming out due to my fuel saving alone. I actually overfilled as well, never did the amount of race testing to truly figure how much to put in... So took the safe option and put in an extra 5-6 litres.
I had 39 litres left going into the Pits.... Had I put in the correct amount, I might have jumped another place, Phoenix came out of the Pits just in front of me... but he had an off track issue that got me his place... for me to give it back later with a mistake of my own.
Do I look competitive if I'm studying fuel used??. Psml. Thought I was taking the chilled option to play this game.@el-ve
I was only flashing the lights to let you know I was there. It's what usually happens in the real world. I'm not expecting the red carpet. But it's just racing etiquette to either move off to the side, or just ease off a touch. So not to interfere with the race. But it's all good. If I have to make a pass as if it's for position, then I will@LordRoss
I didn’t want to pit 3 times so risked It with the fuel
Didnt get much practice due to an ill daughter but she seems to be sleeping well again so I should get some laps in this weekend.@S2N-Ava
