Wow gaming really is dying

I'm just after sitting through Sonys Gamescom press conferance and there was honestly nothing there that grabbed my attention at all. No new game announcements which means next year I've only Twisted Metal and Starhawk to look forward too. A whole lot of PS Vita which has still yet to impress me and more PS Move crap thats only aimmed at casuals.

The 3DTV is a rip off. America get a game bundled with theirs and it costs 499 dollars. Last time I checked 1 dollar gives you 70 cent in euros. Shops have already been selling PS3s for 249 euros over here for months and does anyone honestly still care for the PSP weither its 99 euros or 199 euros.

Man Sony really need to get back in touch with their gamers because if we keep geting more crap like this then I'm hanging up my game controllers for good.

I wouldn't necessarily say gaming is dying, there is still plenty of games out there. However I do agree on the ridiculous pricing of the 3D display. What are Sony thinking! 499 Euros is $718, yet in the US they are only paying $499!

I was interested in the new display, but at that price it's a rip-off.

Maybe you are getting to old for gaming :smileywink: lol

It wasn't all bad, Escape Plan looks great, nice to hear more about the Vita and I will be getting he PS3 Display. I was kind of disappointed not seeing more of Starhawk or Dust but there is always the TGS.

Re: Wow gaming really is dying

Maybe so. Escape plan looked fun but it looks like a PSN game that you would buy and play for 1 hour and never play it again. As for the 3DTV. You can already buy 42" 3DTVs for 800 euros over here and in 6 months you'll get them for 700 or maybe even 600 Euros. Also I love Infamous 2 but that PSN game they announced looks corny as hell.

Re: Wow gaming really is dying

It is a little high but as always you need to include VAT for products in europe (something america doesn't have).  So take 20% off the price for starters, not even mentioning exchange rates.  Still higher than US but what's new?

Re: Wow gaming really is dying

I think there are too few 'dare to be different' type titles this gen, developers seem to aim for the casual gamer who enjoys FPS games and 5 hour campaigns tied to a simplistic plot with a terrible online mode lasting about a fortnight. The only genuinely intruigingly different titles appear on the PSN nowadays.

But the bit I dont understand is why these casual titles are showcased at these conferences, E3, gamescom, TGS and the like. Casual gamers don't watch them, I'd be surprised if they even knew about them. Essentially all your left with is bewildered fanbase looking on as some dance group perform something unrelated for seemingly no reason.

Re: Wow gaming really is dying

GamesCom has never really been a major event as such. Game announcements are usually kept for E3 and then released by the end of the year/first quarter of the next fiscal year. It would be a stupid time to announce a huge new title right now, because there's not enough time to build hype for a release in those two timeframes. GamesCom for Sony seems to be for announcements that couldn't quite fit in at E3.

With that in mind, Sony still did well imho. We now know quite a lot more about the Vita's features and games, there was a few brand new game announcements, an official PS3 price drop, a new insanely cheap PSP and last but not least, some incredible looking Uncharted 3 footage. Just think, if you were a fan of Nintendo or Microsoft, you wouldn't have saw any conference at all yesterday. Be grateful with what we had. :smileyhappy:

As far gaming dying, don't be silly! You only have to spend a couple of minutes looking for titles on all platforms and you'll soon realise that the rest of this year is going to be one of the best, jam packed moments you have seen in gaming yet. Plus, the PlayStation Vita definitely does look to be something special and will change portable gaming forever. Just you wait, you may not want a Vita now, but trust me, when it's out in stores, you will be feeling cold and left out because you don't have one, which at this point, you will cave in and buy one. :smileywink:
