A Thousand Suns - Linkin Park

Just downloaded this album. My guess is that it leaked, but I managed to find it. I was expecting so much from this album.. and it has flopped hugely. There are 2 or 3 catchy songs. Nothing that I'd want to listen to over and over though. There are 4 or 5 tracks that are either instrumental or sound clips of people talking. The rest have a techno/dancey feel. The old LP rap-metal style is completely gone. I was hyped for this, and but I give it about 3/10. It can be downloaded from all good copyright defying sites right now, if you don't want to wait another few days.

Re: A Thousand Suns - Linkin Park

Linkin Park are in my top 5 favourite bands of all time.

Changed my mind completely after listening to it for the second time. I actually quite like it. It's nothing compared to their earlier work but they're clearly experimenting with new sounds (this album plus MTM) but people shouldn't be surprised. This isn't the first time we've heard them experimenting, what about Reanimation? They've been doing this sort of thing for a while now. This is actually a sign of a true artist, one that seeks for something new, heads in different directions as opposed to sticking to the same thing just because it's working. Experimenting to find something different, I have more respect for them doing this.

Yes, I prefer their old work. And yes this was surprisingly far from their "roots". But as someone who isn't a big fan of trance/dance music at all, I actually quite enjoyed this album.

I do wish LP would go back to their old ways but if this is all they're giving us for now then fine, I can live with it. Let them experiment, let them find their art. At least they have the balls to change what they're doing completely as opposed to  pretty much every other band out today that just stick to whatever is selling.

I will be buying this when it's released, not because it's a great album (it's not, it's good, not great) but because I want to support them and their art, also because, despite not being a great album, it's better than most of the stuff in the mainstream right now.

I'll miss the old Rap-Metal style (as there first two albums are what put them in my top 5 favourite albums of all time).

But this album isn't as terrible as some make it out to be, if another band had released this people would be intrigued, it's only because people have certain expectations of LP.

I respect them for this. They're clearly making music for themselves, not their fans. And that's what a true artist does. When you start making music specifically because it's what fans want to hear, you lose your way.

Give this album 7/10.

This is exactly what I hoped they wouldn't do. Hybrid Theory was just an epic album. Metorea was good too. I started losing faith in Linkin Park with the release of Minutes to Midnight which was a completely different genre of music. Off the top of my head I can only think of one rap/rock song from that album and that was Bleed it Out. They are too different now and I'm not saying it is necessarily bad, but they have left from my taste of music.

Re: A Thousand Suns - Linkin Park

I haven't downloaded the album, its on pre-order so should be with me next week. I'm a huge fan of the band and Hybrid Theory is possibly my favourite album of all time. I've listened to a few of the songs from the album including Blackout and Wretches and Kings and it completely surprised me the first time I listened to it, it didn't sound like Linkin Park.

But after a few listens to some of the songs I actually quite like it, I prefer Hybrid Theory but I don't dislike it by any means, I really like Blackout. God knows what genre it's classified as though. :smileyvery-happy:

I've listened to it once and i have to say i'm very disappointed, i was really hoping they would go back to the earlier days, or even do something more like MTM as i quite liked that CD but this is not my cup of tea :smileysad:

Re: A Thousand Suns - Linkin Park

HUGE Linkin Park fan here, Meteora being my favourite album. Closely followed my Minutes to Midnight.

In my opinion, Linkin Park are doing the right thing by experimenting! As good as they were, I love the fact that they're trying to reach new audiences and the likes. I always end up liking their material, even if first time around it seems different.

Re: A Thousand Suns - Linkin Park

I have to agree with Fulcrum and R_07, I admire LP in experimenting with new styles. They keep going out of their comfort zone of music to try and test new styles. The more I listen to A Thousand Suns the more I like it.

Got the special edition, I really like the album. I guess some fans were willing to make the transition with the band while others aren't which is fair enough, but like some of you have said, I admire the way they've tried something new and revolutionary. Mike said he wanted it to be genre-busting and it most definitely is. I'm really enjoying it.

Re: A Thousand Suns - Linkin Park

I definitely am all for a band experimenting and trying new sounds. What kind of band would you be if you kept the same style forever?

Each new album should take a new direction. I just think this was completely the wrong way for them. I've tried listening to it a few more times, but still not feeling it.

Hopefully the new Blink-182 album next year will blow me away. It's been a while since one of those types of albums was released for me.
