I used an iphone as a media server (with an iphone app) and could access and play music that was in its library.  It was a little temperamental but did work.

I want to see if the same can be done with spotify (to which I subscribe on my home PC).  I searched the forums here and found plenty about Spotify and wishing there was an app for the PS3 but nothing about one being released or alternative was of streaming from your PC to the PS3.

I found this and wondered if anyone had any experience of it or similar.  I get nervous about messing with files in a way that I do not understand.

All it does is stream your current single output from the PC spotify app.

This means you have to set up the App before you go on your PS3. 

Modifications to the Spotify API are Getting banned for commercail usage devices.

Spotify OWN the API and are banning its releases on non licensed devices.

They have allready done so before.

This modification Allows Reboardcasting over the wifi and remote play. So is a breach of their crappy T&C.

Thanks for the additional info. I don't think I will bother giving it a try.
