Previously whenever I went to gigs my mates have always got the tickets but now they've all gone off to uni and I still want to go to gigs, so can anyone tell me where is the best place to order gig tickets from?

I would try buying them direct from the venue itself before going onto ticketmaster/seetickets. The venue don't rip you off with booking fees, transaction fees and sometimes delivery costs too. I know the Portsmouth Pyramids don't charge for delivery, which is awesome.
