Re: Superbowl XLVI

I know what you mean. From what I can establish, they "scrum" and yell out a few random words and numbers, then pass the ball to a guy behind, who then throws it as hard as he can up the field. Either a guy catches it, makes a run and is tackled, or he is tackled before he gets the ball. Then the game stops and the process is repeated. Does any play time actually go beyond 30 seconds?

Ehh, a little ignorant to be honest. I can't be bothered to type out why/how. But it does have a stop start nature to it. Can't dispute that.

I say what I see. Then at half time, the pitch becomes a concert for ages, and I wonder if I knocked the remote and changed channels.

It's a lot more technical then a 'scrum'. Each play is designed with so much detail it's pathetic.

To someone who hasn't watched much of the game, then yes, it does look a 'mess'. But once you learn more about the game you find it a lot more interesting. Not to mention they are the best athletes in any sport :smileyhappy:

They are no way the best athletes in sport, they would die on the rugby pitch. Put any NFL team in the Super 12 and they would be carried out in coffins, the are not conditioned to withstand a relentless barrage for two halves of 40 minutes and they are not toughended to withstand the Super 12 style hits without the padding. Not too mention that the Super 12 players are faster. Strength is more position orientated but as for the strongest again I give it to the Super 12.

That is the most insane league involving a ball.

And the there are soccer players, ignoring how redicilously fast they are and how redicilously fit they are... If they kicked a big NFL player at the same power the kick a 30 yarder they'd snapped their thigh in two. A euro pro soccer player exerts more leg power than any other ball orientated sportsman, they could cripple any sportsman from any sports discipline if they intended to. That most un-aerodynamically round ball they play with can and has been kicked at over 100mph... and the leg that kicks it is nearly moving at about two thirds the speed. Being kicked by a 75mph muscle loaded leg will put the unlucky recipient on a course of Valium in hospital for a week.

Every sportsperson is special, put any of them out of their comfort zone to withstand a blast from another where his strength lies and it will get messy. Who would you rather kick you full strength? Ronaldo or The Rock? I would choose The Rock cause he wasn't a kicker in NFL and his legs would never match the instantaneous power output of Ronaldo.
