the rooney situation was different, it was stated ( true or not who knows) that he had a breakdown in the relationship with fergy, now that can be repaired so i dont think the 2 situations are entirely in sync

hmmm, perhaps it was true but if you look at fergie's record over the 25 years there, as soon as there was a break-down in relationships between him and a player they were shipped out asap.

exactly, & had fergy had 2-3-4-5 other strikers of similar or same abilities as rooney he more than likely would of been

There wasn't immediate replacements (of the same quality) available when Beckham etc left though ...

ryan giggs was the answer. i remember the first game united played post-beckham and they got a free kick in typical beckham territory. the commentator asked how united would cope. up steps giggs and curls a lovely ball into the top corner.

my point, united have a big, quality squad that even if we get rid of players (looking at van nistlerooy, keane, ronaldo) someone is there to step up.

David Beckham wasn't just about free kicks. Ryan Giggs isn't a right winger is he? So no, he wasn't the answer.

Re: The Football League Thread

I think it's a start ; I wouldn't get carried away just now as last season we were top in December and we all know what happened from then on.
As much as I think Jullian Bennett is a great addition to the squad with his long throw , I'd leave him out of the team when otsemobor comes back and I'd play buxton LB.
I'm really impressed with Palmer , He's one of the few players who wants the ball and his distribution is usually top class.
JJ needs a few more games to pick up his fitness and I'd put him on the bench and use him as a striker until Lowe comes back.
Heard that O'Grady may be out for the season with a heel injury which is a huge disapointment as we're lacking the sort of power he'd bring to the team.

Re: The Football League Thread

Really Happy with the way tony mowbray has changed our small squad, relying on youth players. 1 defeat in last 21 games which i find amazing seen as the last couple of seasons we have had and currently 3rd in the championship really pleased with the start we have made

Rumours that Martin O'Neill is going back to Leicester?

I was hearing that because of the money you have spent, you have to get promoted this year otherwise there will be really heavy penalties next year from the Football League (due to all this Fair Play stuff).
