Re: The Tennis Thread.

Yeah it would be nice, doesn't help that his dad is a total tool as well.

Well I've seen most of the 3 matches he's played and they seem correct to me, good to see him returning well as well, in previous months his backhand return was non existent, at Roland Garros on match point against Robert he really should have made that backhand return as well, but who cares now, good to see it finally back to the level it should be. Don't remind me of that final, disgusting performance! No wonder he went into this sort of slump after Wimbledon last year, but good to see him finally play well again, there's been hints of him getting back to this level but thankfully it's happened now rather than after Wimbledon.

Well against Ljubicic he was good, Ljubicic was excellent though, served at something like 70% first serves so it was always going to be quite a task for Murray but I think we'll find out a lot tomorrow, if he plays like that and Gasquet plays the way he's been playing then Gasquet might well get the win. Either way Murray's going to have to step up his game to go very far here and hopefully that's tomorrow.

Just hoping for the same thing, Novak really deserves the number 1 spot and hopefully he gets it on monday, I believe if Novak makes the final he's number 1 regardless of it Nadal takes the title as well, same as at RG. Those semi's at the USO would be great! Novak and Roger have been in the same half of GS draws 13 of the last 14 times or something, unreal numbers, most likely because of the organisers rigging the draw so they can get their beloved 'Fedal' final.

Re: The Tennis Thread.

Well my fave 2 players are out. Berdych ***** you for playing so *****. As for Juan he fought so hard, was sad to see him lose in the end. Either way still got 2 of my other men in Tsonga and Murray left and both looked good today.

Re: The Tennis Thread.

Nadal hurt his leg, this could be Murray's year.

Sorry, couldn't keep a straight face whilst typing that

Doesn't Murray always look good untill he plays someone in the top 5, then he plays crap?

Re: The Tennis Thread.

Completely right about today Cert, great day of tennis. First match of Berdych's I pay attention to and he loses in straight sets .

Did I hear wrong or did they say 41 degrees surface temperature when Murray went on! Great first set between him and Gasquet, only three unforced errors a piece in the first set! And then Gasquet's level really dropped and Murray cruised through.

Both Williams sisters went out but I can't say I'm completely surprised. They didn't have a very good chance of winning after such lengthy lay offs, just commentator hype.

Had to juggle between Tsonga, Federer and Del Potro at the same time. Tsonga didn't look bad but I think it was a case of Ferrer playing below that normal consistent level he plays.

After losing that first set, Federer looked pretty good so on the basis of what I saw from those two matches, and as good as Tsonga's been playing, I'm going to say straight sets for Federer.

I thought despite Del Potro hating grass, and having to go off injured, he did great to push Nadal so hard. But if I'm honest, even if he managed to win that fourth set I don't think he could have won the last unless it was postponed because he was starting to look very tired. But nonetheless, great performance and hopefully he'll be looking to break back into that top four by the end of the year.

Re: The Tennis Thread.

Nadal and his 'fake' injuries, apparently he has doubts about even going out and playing his QF against Fish, just watch how he comes out on court and runs around like he's never been injured, this is really getting to a point where it's just beyond stupid. Don't see how it's funny that this could be Murray's year now though, was stunning in the latter part of the match against Gasquet, if he plays like that I think he'll at least make the final. And yeah Murray does usually look good and then play crap against a top player, but I don't see that happening here.

Rayhann, yeah they did say that, doubt it was though. I live quite near to Wimbledon and it was hot, but not that hot, probably just them exaggerating I suppose.

So happy to see both go out and yeah both didn't, Serena has looked beyond awful and Venus has looked okay at most. Just happy Pironkova beat Venus though, I'm a huge fan and I'm so happy that she finally found some form again, she really loves Wimbledon.

Yeah and Ferrer isn't exactly great on grass, but still I think Tsonga vs Federer has more than enough potential for the match of the tournament and the upset, can't wait for it personally! Should be a cracker! Other 3 quarter's should be routine but maybe Fish has a shot if he serves well against a sub par Rafa.

Would have got around a 40 minute break I guess before the beginning of the 5th, maybe it would have done him good but who knows. Just a shame to see that kind of match on grass though, the court was so slow it's pathetic what grass has become. It's weird to analyse the match though, throughout the whole match you could easily see how bad his movement yet somehow he managed to keep it very competitive. At the beginning of the year I said top 20 would probably be where he ends the year but after seeing his comeback so far I'm definitely saying top 10, top 4 is still a shot too far but top 10 seems good to me.

Re: The Tennis Thread.

Murray should make the semi's but I don't think he'll beat Nadal even with his injury. And if he does somehow make the final he won't beat Federer or Djokovic.

Re: The Tennis Thread.

The thing is last year if Murray actually had a forehand down the line against Nadal in the semi I think he would have lost in 5 or even won, and that was against a fit Nadal, so I think he could beat him here, just has to imagine this is the US Open or something. In the final if he were to play Djokovic I fully expect Murray to win, by far the superior grass courter but yeah I don't think he'll beat Federer assuming he Federer plays well.
