A step forward in the fight against hiv

They have cured hiv before, by taking t-cells from people "immune" to hiv and using them it was an enormously expensive procedure, and it was thought that if they could somehow cheaply engineer such t-cells they could probably cure hiv.

Well the research has progressed very well, and now they have tested live t-cells in live mice and it has worked as suspected, the t-cells start to be produced in your body once introduced and start to wage war on the hiv, and as this happens your immune system returns to normal, so no ordinary bugs like the cold can kill you.

Other researches have made muscles produce t-cells to combat HIV, the hiv virus ignores muscle tissue and attacks your immune system, not knowing your muscles are now the immune system it knocks them back.

all things added up, hiv in the developed world will probably be gone in our life times.

The question is how long will it take to clear it in non-developed countries?

Re: A step forward in the fight against hiv

I can see this sadly being misused. Those in the Western World will probably get it easily but when it comes to third world countries, it will only be given to countries that have leaders backed by the west. Those countries that need it, and don't have a western backed government, will probably get little or no vaccine. :smileysad:

I hope that this is not the case, so I guess we will have to wait and see.

Dont worry about it, places like India/brazil/colombia will just make the t-cells anyway, they wont care about patents.

China will probably be fine, they are one of the worst countries on the planet, but Queens Uni is helping them set up a chemical and parmacutical research department, and the head of queens said this with a huge smile on his face cause he is going to get money. So if china wants it, it will have it, that means russia will have it if it wants it.

The only place that probably wont is Africa, but they kind of rely on handouts for everything, and dont seem willing to even try for better lives, their approach seems to be to leave for a better life not stay and build one.
