A thought for those guys trapped in the mine...

[ Edited ]

Wow, what a nightmare and testiment of strength and struggle...those poor guys trapped under the earth now told it might take until Christmas to drill down to them and get them out.

The mental side of it alone, the light, the lack of space, the dignity and sanity of it.

Most people's nightmare of claustrophobia right there.

So yeah, a thought to those guys, all of which are still alive, being sent down anti-depressents to keep them from sinking into mental oblivion...I hope they get them out.

a nightmare indeed - can't imagine what they are going through.

at least they can get things down to them to help them get through it.

"A special exercise and recreation programme is being set up to keep the men fit during their long wait.
They will also need to be in shape to be pulled up the 66cm (26 inches) wide shaft that is being bored to rescue them."

hardly think they'll be putting on weight while they're down there!

Aye, saw this on the news yesterday. There must be a reason but I can't see why they don't just dig around the collapse and then dig back into the existing tunnel.

I imagine they're worried about crushing them to death if anything else collapses.

Most likely. The best bit of news is that there is a large water tank where they are so they can feed a pipe down to refill if necessary, and ofcourse they can send down food, hydration packs (does anyone know if that is some kind of gel?).

But my god, the amount of time they will spend down there is crazy! Isn't one of them in his 60's?

I'm sure that some other country must have some more advanced drilling equipment that could perhaps cut down the time, cutting through quicker?

Not that I know anything.

I can't imagine being stuck down there for any period of time, let alone months!

Good luck to them, I wish them all the best! <3

It really is a testament to their mental strength and stability if they've all managed to cope this far into it. I think that once they'd been found, most of them would have thought that that was the end of it and they'd be rescued soon; but to be told that they could face another four months down there must be absolutely crippling.

I know I for one wouldn't be able to cope.

Re: A thought for those guys trapped in the mine...

This is a big assumption and it might be out of place, but I wouldn't be surprised if a investigation into this reveals the mine is operated by a large Western mining company that had total disregard for Western levels of safety in the name of profit.

If so, our governments might want to force these companies operating in foreign lands to implement the same standards of safety as the nation they are floated on the stock exchange. It will never happen though :smileysad:
