Amazing photos of decaying buildings in the UK...

So yesterday I found this website, members on the forum find empty hospitals, warehouses and factories etc and to take photos of what they come across. I think the photos on the site are pretty impressive and I am now thinking about finding somewhere to take my own shots. Check it out if you like some of those images I posted below, if you sort the threads by replies you will come across the better threads. If enough people are interested and look post photos you think are cool too.

I find stuff like that pretty cool. The old Boothferry park stadium has now been demolished, but for a while it was just left deserted, which I thought looked really good. Here are a few pictures:

Those are great shots, I am amazed by how quick the buildings start to fall apart.

it takes ages for buildings to fall apart. It does not take ages for drug addicts to smash a building to bits.

I guess so but nature definitely plays a big part in reclaiming the buildings.

Re: Amazing photos of decaying buildings in the UK...

I am on the sidelines with this sort of thing. Does anyone remember seeing a Horizon program about what would happen if all humans just disappeared?

They should some buildings would just fall apart after 20 years or so, while others would last for over one hundred years without any noticeable problems being exposed. It was the metal buildings that is left unattended would be in quick trouble, and the stone based buildings would last longer. But even the stone based buildings would last about a century because of the type of cement we use these days... it is basically crap stuff lol

They went on to show that buildings from 1800's would last longer haha, but then contrary to city buildings using modern cement, the longest lasting buildings (if you could call them that) would be the Hydro Dams, with the likes of the Hoover Dam lasting something like a thousand years because it's cement was specially cooled by pipes pumped with cold water in the interior which prevented cracking as the cement sets.

Going away from buildings altogether, the last sign of humans ever being on planet earth would be Mount Rushmore which would last over 300,000 years. Enough time for all metal buildings to completely disintergrate, all stone buildings to be weathered into dust including the pyramids (which I didn't include in the above classifications, they would last longer than anything we made in the last several hundred years) and Mount Rushmore would even last longer than all underground facilities, I remember them saying even NORAD would be completely gone due to continental movement and the interior eventually being filled.

No, but I'm sure you probably uploaded a video about it.

I am always checking iPlayer for Horizon episodes, they put random ones from the past years. If I see it, I shall remember to post the link although not guaranteed in this particular thread Shane... I may not be able to find it, so a new one will be needed. :smileysad:
