Best current budget DSLRs?

Looking in two different price ranges really, if anyone can help with the best sub £300 DSLRs and the best sub £400. I've done some searching but not sure if what people are recommending are the best at the moment and not just the best from months ago.

Re: Best current budget DSLRs?

Sub £300 you're looking at a bridge really, which isn't too great at all.

Try and find a well priced Canon 450D or 500D, well worth the money, especially the 500D as it shoots 720p video too.

Re: Best current budget DSLRs?

For £370 you can get a canon eos 1000d or a nikon D3000

Personally use a 450d, nice little camera. I looked at the 500D but if I wanted HD video then i would have bought a video camera... however I can see how some people would find it useful.

I was just saying for a little extra you know, just if the prices aren't too varied.

I'd really say go for a 450D, I used a 350D still and that does me fine, absolutely great tool!

You don't need the newest top of the range stuff to get into photography, that is what I'm guessing you're getting this for.

You'll start off quite bad, and probably (If you're like me) stay that way for a while until you begin to invest time and effort into doing it, if you're that determined.

I'm off to do a foundation degree in photography next year, can't wait :smileyvery-happy:

Sorry, I wasn't having a go. I can see myself having the 450d for another couple of years still, the video aspect of having it in an slr does nothing for me.

There is a nice little guide here: www.lbguides.com which gives some nice advice. The only thing I can suggest, being an amateur myself, is get out there and take shots. oh and shot in Raw format all the time, much easier to edit later on.

The thing I am struggling on is if i should buy a new lens or a proper flash. The flash you get with the SLR's are ok but you want to light up around your subject not straight at them... Flash bouncing is the other thing to learn about :smileyhappy:

Acidoxen best of luck with that degree, I did a class in high school but it was shooting with 35mm film, and was about 13 years ago. I wanted to do night classes but the majority of them are all about photoshop.

Re: Best current budget DSLRs?

Both  Canon Olympus and Nikon make really good DSLR's.  However the photographs they take is totally dependent on the quality of the lens on the body and the kit lenses are nothing special.  All will take really great photos if you put a 70-200 F2.8 lens on them, but unfortunately these lenses are not cheap.  You should check out www.dpreview.com for information on all cameras.

Below is an example of what you can achieve with a good dslr body/ lens combo
