The subject Design and Communication Graphics is one that I really enjoy but next year in September I have to decide what university courses I wish to pick and I have absolutely no idea as to whether the subject leads onto any careers other than Architecture which is the only course we were told it leads onto in the school. So, does anybody know any courses (or career paths) that would be similar to the Technical Graphics/Design and Communication Graphics one?
Because I'm assuming some people won't know of what the subject is the syllabus is listed here: http://www.t4.ie/DCG_09/syllabus/Design%20&%20Comm
So any suggestions as to what course to pick?
*Bolded the important bit.

I do graphic design at UNI and I would say aside from Architecture those types of technical drawings would also be used in engineering and product design. Those measurements are naturally for designing practical or physical objects so if I were you I would think of something you find interesting such as phones or Formula One then find out about careers that help in those fields.
You might even find working in 3D enjoyable if you are willing to learn something like 3Ds Max.
Oh and if you have not already, look into the Fibonacci Sequence/Golden Section. ![]()

Just wanted to say thanks for the reply (and to everybody else). I forgot to mention that there is indeed a CAD part of the syllabus that consists of a project (an example found here: http://www.t4.ie/DCG_09/assessment/assignment/DCG%
As for Engineering, is there any specific type (such as Mechanical, Electronic, Civil, Electrical etc.) that would be more in line with the subject than another? I admit I've overlooked product design so I'll certainly look into that course regardless. Thanks again.

at the moment i can't give you an answer to your main question due to being short on time but to answer this question it would depend on your modules. I haven't read the whole thread properly but based on the words Technical graphics and Design and communication graphics from your first post it would most likely be civil engineering, followed my mechanical/marine/automotive/aeronautical. Electrical/electronic engineering (anything along those lines) Would be in last place, unless you go with product design then it would be up there with civil engineering.

Looking at the short syllabus, it just looks like a course for communicating design ideas...?
So presumably you would need another course to teach you about how to design something to communicate in the first place? E.g. how to design buildings that don't fall down, or circuits that work or whatever.
It looks like an almost "meta-course" to go with a range of other courses...
