i had this problem a few years ago.. & i've still got it to be honest..
i woke up partially deaf though so thankfully i can still hear abit, but basically i had fluid behind my ear drum but it wasn't draining properly down my throat so i had to have an operation to fit a "gromit" which basically puts a small hole in the ear drum so the fluid could drain out through my ear..
the operation didn't work anyway so i'm still partially deaf & i'm now waiting for a hearing aid fitting *great..* but the doctor reakons the problem is a retracted ear drum meaning my eardrums slightley sucked in & they can't do nothing about it..
if the problem continues, a visit to the doctors is definatley the way to go..
an Ear Candle does seem worth a try though..
Hope it sorts itself out for you anyway mate.

listen to arctic monkeys, you'll appreciate being at least partially deaf then.

Did you wake up with earplugs in?
A few years ago, I had the same problem and it turned out I had some wax that had been pushed deep into my ear and was resting on my eardrum, stopping it vibrating, meaning I couldn't hear anything, I went to the doctors and they sorted it out.
Although I guess thats pretty irrelevant seeing as you've already said going to the doctors is the last option.

I woke up today deaf in my right ear, I cleaned my ear and its all fine and clean but im still deaf, so i think the blockage is on the other side of the eardrum. I was sleeping with earplugs in.
Anyway.
Anyone know of a way to fix this? Google told me to pour hot water up my nose, and I am crazy, but not that crazy.
Go to the doctor, you probably need your ears cleaned out. They will syringe hot water into your ears to remove the wax from inside. Don't clean them out daily or the ear plugs clogged up the wax? =p OR ear may have popped as you were wearing ear plugs, sharp intakes of breath during sleep can do that.
