Forward Compatibility... So I remember when i first got Microsoft Flight Sim '98 I thought my PC at that time could play it, but it turned out it only played it at the basics, turned out all i had to do was upgrade the ram a little bit and then i was able to put better things on the sim like better water effects and cloud effects etc.

So Its nothing to do with the game, it's the hardware which will be doing the work and increasing the overall quality of the game by a good few notches so to say?

Not quite. PC games are designed to scale certain parts of the engine because of the wide variety of hardware the software has to run on. Console games only have to run on the machine that they are developed for, so these features are not implemented in code.

Re: E speculations video

Yes but PC games are built to run on the best possible computer at the time
however if i stick a old pc game in my new video game laptop the graphics would be awful

You better point that out to CCP then as DUST 514 will be using Forward Compatibility.

If you think about it, claiming to be compatible with something that doesn't yet exist is utter nonsense.

All they can ever claim is that future versions of their product will be made to be backwards compatible, if indeed the technology even supports it.

CCP developer have claimed forwards compatibility ( not backwards compatibility ) with future Sony consoles, and whatever the next generation of PlayStation that will be released in the future. They must know what they mean otherwise they would have revealed it as backward compatibility.

But only time will tell if Sony takes the Forward Compatibility once step further ( Or even MS for that matter ) with ( lets call it ) the 720. Speculation on what might be coming to PS4 is one thing, but CCP developer has revealed ( their version ) of Forward Compatibility for the PlayStation brand.

Re: E3 speculations video

What i do hope for ( even though it's no big problem already on PS3 ) is for more USB ports. I hope they keep Four USB's as standard.

They can claim whatever they like, it's not entirely within their control. What if Sony redesigned the online gaming model such that it didn't interact with any PS3 online games? And the PS4, if there is one, didn't play PS3 games? How does the compatibility work then?

Developers have a commercial interest in making such claims. What is your interest in believing them?

This is why it's Speculation on what might be coming to PS4. Until it's here that's all it is. But if developers are claiming forward compat- they must mean it's forward, not backward.

Even right now on PS3 changing from standard hardware can in fact impact our gaming.

But despite that you're happy to believe claims that a current product will be compatible with it? That wasn't speculation.

I've just invented a new TV remote control. I guarantee that it will compatible with every model of TV ever produced in the future. Do you want to buy one?
