Like I said but you ignored depends on specification. Such as what are the minimum forces is this device meant to withstand. What sort of vehicle accidents is it meant to at least survive.

I'd guess it would have to withstand the forces of a typical vehicle collision, with a suitable margin built into the level of protection.

The point was that it would need to be pretty well protected to withstand the impact of an accident and still function, or it would be pointless. Of course that would take the form of a specification, but that doesn't alter the general point about having to be robust. And the issue with that is that it would significantly increase the costs.

What defines a typical vehicle collision? How well is 'pretty well'?  What sort of accidents? What makes you think the cost increase will be significant. For all we know you wrapping it in steel could be sufficient to allow it to be sold in the EU and steel is dirt cheap compared with other metals. Also doesn't everything in a car need to be robust.

My point is that without exact figuers and a proper specfication we can't say how this will be built. For all we know it may be suffcient to intergrate it just behind the dashboard and on the other hand this thing may need to be built like a mini tank.

You can't save time only spend it.

Jesus H Christ! I wasn't trying to define the design specifcation, just making the general point about it surviving a collision in tact.

I'd say install it between the driver and passenger seat. Then, if it's destroyed, chances are an ambulance is largely moot...

They will not care about it being too sensitive. The insurance companies will be billed for the ambulance, fire service, police call out.

I'd say the governments won't mind this either. In fact, in Ireland they try and push an ambulance and fire engine on the person phoning the emergency services just so that they can bill them.

That does make sense, although I'm not sure I'd want to have to sell that idea to drivers.

All I said is that it is possible for it survive a collision without the need for extra protection.

True - I wouldn't put it at the top of the marketing list of USPs. But in my experience 90% of drivers are too stupid to realise why it is where it is. Put a cup or mobile phone holder on top of it and we're golden...
