Flood Preparation 2012

(UK Only) but other EU countries may find some info, useful.

Over the next few months severe flooding may occur near your home and if it does, it is best to get prepared. The UK has endured the driest months on record throughout 2011 & 2012 and due to this the Environmental Flood Agency and the Met-Office are expecting high levels of rainfall to hit the UK which is mainly being brought on by increased low pressure coming from the Atlantic Ocean. The areas which might be affected worse, are the areas without flood defences.

Here's a few simple steps you could take to minimise loss of life and limit the damage to property.

  1. Create a personalised Flood Plan
  2. Call the Environmental Flood Agency for warnings and other advice about flooding 0845 988 1188 or alternatively look at this leaflet for information about protecting your property.
  3. If you have a house near a lake or river... follow this guide
  4. watch & listen to weather forecasts (I know there boring, but they could save your life) or alternatively check the Met-Office website for general weather info & weather warnings. There's also a link on there, where you can check the weather where you live and other corresponding warnings as well; besides flooding.
  5. If flooding is imminent listen to flood sirens and take actions by sealing up doors and windows where water might get into your home.
  6. Make sure you take valuables and pets upstairs, out the way of the flooded area.
  7. Only evacuate your home when it's safe to do so or when ordered by the Emergency services.

Currently on 24/04/2012 at 5:12am: There are  no weather warnings issued.

This is a Flood preparation guide only. The info provided within this post is supplied by the Met-Office and the Environmental Flood Agency and info is correct at the time of posting.

I'm there, it might be a good idea to use the eye during the coming summer riots too. The sky was a beautiful shade of amber during last summers frolics.
