I believe that the amateur meteorologist typically works alone.
I doubt that many of the professional ones socialise much with other people either.
I thought they hung out in groups. I'm sure there was some team in England who had a machine that could predict the weather a year in advance or something along those lines.

Outbreaks of locally heavy rain will spread west across many southern parts of England and Wales this evening, overnight and into Thursday morning, with thunder in places.
