Re: Google - ZX Spectrum.

Posted this in the retro corner thread but as we're having a bit of Speccy chat here too I thought I'd put it in here as well.

Re: Google - ZX Spectrum.

I remember getting a 16k spectrum by mistake by the shop.Nothing would load.

Took it back - And they were all stumped as to why this was. Then some clever soul came and typed something into the spectrum ....He told my mom & dad we'd been given the wrong machine by mistake!

Does anyone know what this fella would have typed to tell the difference between 16k & 48K?

Re: Google - ZX Spectrum.

I wish my parents were gamers so they would've got to keep stuff like this. I'd love to play really old machines like this. I'm a 90's kid ><

Re: Google - ZX Spectrum.

You can still pick them up here and there and there are tonnes of games to be found for mere pennies.

I have a broken one back home somewhere *sob*

Try it in 16k mode as well - it should....fail.

16384 is the first byte beyond 16k.

In 48k mode all you did was set a byte 1/4 of the way through memory to 255.

Or maybe try POKE 49152, 255 in 48k mode...

I still use peek and poke to this day as variable names thanks to my good old Speccy :smileyhappy:
