Samsung are the biggest smartphone maker in the world, Apple I believe are second. I read between them they account for 99% of profits.
Indeed, it is pretty insane that two manufacturers can take up that much of the industry profit. It's actually insane when you look at Apple's numbers alone. Samsung are the biggest by shipment numbers of devices.
If only people knew the iPhone 4S as a phone is the worst performer of them all ![]()
It shouldn't really be a suprise that Apple and Samsung have the industry wrapped up between them, the media are always waxing lyrical about their products even if they haven't tested them properly. When was the last time these reviews were tried in area's of slightly weaker signal strength? They are all carried out in offices in the centre of major populations where there is a flood of masts, not where it really matters.

My point in the story was that Sony is the first (to my knowledge) to introduce this functionality to the Android OS, while this functionality is standard on all Windows Phones.

its an android phone, it has a shutter button.

I dont know about apple, but samsung gets a fair amount of hate, the s3 was getting hate because of how it looked despite it being one of the fastest android devices on the planet.
As for my samsung phone, its not a magic device, it holds a signal as well as any other phone I have had, no better no worse, I know of black spots in urban areas and weak areas just outside dublin and it does as fine as any phone.
I think samsung deserve all the money they get, the note is amazing and the s2 and s3 are top line phones.

Bar the fact it's not available in the UK the point he was making was you can launch the camera without having to unlock the phone with only the camera button, something which on smartphones was only (up until now) possible on Windows Phones, mainly because most OEMs don't bother with a hardware shutter button. Whilst that phone does have a camera button can it launch the camera when the device is locked?

I read the article again, he does not say anything which you have said, He didnt mention first in uk, he didnt mention the lumia, or the amaze 4g etc etc or any of the earlier phones that had camera buttons on them.
Maybe he meant it, maybe he meant microsoft had copied a feature from other phones and made it standard and this is one of the few phones in the uk also to feature a shutter button.
Maybe the point he was making was that he thinks silver is a good antibacterial and should be used in nano particle format in fillings, he doesnt say it, but since we have to look for meatphorical meanings in his writing, why not go for gold, or silver.

The UK thing should be obvious I thought since it's the BBC on their UK site, and the point he's making was as I said "adding a shutter button on the side of the phone that quickly launches the camera."
It's not that a camera shortcut button is unique, it's the fact that when the phone is on standby you can jump straight into the camera by using it.

And i'm sure that was before the 1st windows phones came out.
A terrible phone but the camera was pretty good for the time.
That's not the point that's being made, it's that it was the first smartphone OS where you could wake the phone and jump straight into the camera by using the shutter button.
