Have they got it expensively wrong with the new Bomber Command Memorial?

[ Edited ]

It's 70 years too late in it's construction, finally costing £7.5 million to build & then you can't bloody see anything of the actual sculptures of the 7 man memorial, because they're obscured by large pillars and a roof!

Do you think 'whatever love is' Charles is going to call it another 'monstrous carbuncle'?

Where's the common sense in the daft way it's built, if you were driving round Hyde Park (These days, you'll probably end up needing memorial yourself if you do!), you wouldn't be able to appreciate the memorial, as you wouldn't be able to bloody see anything!

L o o k!!!!

This seems to quite a common thing in America. Just look at the Lincoln or Jefferson memorial.

Yeah, your right is, I hadn't noticed that being half-blind, stupid, one foot in the grave etc., but the old bag Saxe-Coburg and Gotha has opened it today, with all the pomp and circumstance it rightly deserves, but it doesn't look very elegant to me from a distance - looks more like a brick-sh..-house to be honest!

I think they should have made it easier to see the seven scultures of Bomber Commafrom Airmen further away. All that pain-staking work and then you can't bloody see it!

Here they are:-

Very funny - smart arse!

By the way, did you see, some one on a post to one of my threads called me the forbidden word on pain of death of absolute PERMANENT BANNING, don't tell Supreme Being Lord Ross will you?!!!!

I think think they should have plonked the seven figured sculptures in a memorial like this one below, then you could have bloody well see them and appreciated the memorial properly!!!

OI! M.O.D!

Next time you want to build an overpriced war memorial come and see Logicintuwisdom, I'll tell you what to do, as you're obviously getting wrong advice from somewhere;

but would you be kind enough not to leave it for seventy years like you did with this one before you do, otherwise you'll be having a one-way conversation with a wooden plaque (if I'm lucky) in the muddy paupers' section of an obscure graveyard somewhere!

I think they were also thinking of maintenance. I would have thought an open memorial would be more likely to be damaged by the elements but this has a roof to protect it to some extent.
