Re: Hole in exhaust

The problem with replacing exhaust pieces is that the bolts get corroded in place due to splashed from the road and massive amopunts of heat.

I reciently had to replace the centre section of the exhaust on my frontera. The rear secion was held on with (what looked like) cones of rust, thats how had they had been corroded. There was nothing to engage with my sockets. I ended up cutting the centre section just before the union, lowering the centre section and slithering the rear secion over the rear axle. I then had to attack the rusted bolts with an angle grider.

I then found out that the motor factor had messed up the order and sent the wrong section, so i had to weld up the bits that i had cut and re-order the exhaust.

Take the car to a garage, unless you have **all** the tools to do the job.

I was then dropped into a situation where i had to learn. Its actually no harder than using a hot melt glue gun.

Were you trapped in a barn with the A-Team surrounded by Colonel Decker and his troops?

Many moons ago my old Celica had a rotten exhaust, we physically couldn't weld the backbox anymore, we ended up making a stainless sleeve to slide over it.

Eventually the whole exhaust fell off on the M25, only the front pip was left, I didn't realise till I got to Tarpots on the A13, it sounded like a tank!

I also got pulled up once for having a blowing exhaust, it wasn't even that bad. I did ask the Police Officer why he'd chosen to stop me and not the hundreds of idiots with deliberate noisy exhausts that resemble a baked bean can hanging out the arse of their car, he wasn't impressed. :smileysad:

Re: Hole in exhaust

I'm confused as to why I'm being talked into welding my own car.

Weld the doors shut and get in/out via the windows like the General Lee. :smileywink:

To fix my mates windscreen wiper motor, they had to take out his dashboard to get to it.

To be fair though, he does drive a Fiat SECHENATATAIFHAIOFHO (seicento, whatever)...so as it isn't a real car, he deserves such lunacy.
