Great article! Well worth a read if you have time.

Oddly I was only talking about this at SCEE Towers a couple of weeks ago - about how people just assume the Internet is there but isn't there so to say when in fact you can very easily find some of these cables.

I find it quite fascinating how we've laid such things across sea beds and just how many there must be - it seems quite quaint and antiquated for something which people just seem to assume exists in thin air.

I know exactly where to cut off my whole towns Virgin Media Broadband, there's only two routes the cables come into town so two quick cuts would do the job.
I should know, I put them cables in there years ago when Comcast started up.

The internet was born out of DARPA's efforts to build a network capable of surviving a nuclear war, so I'm not sure even that would do it...

Looking at that map for all the wires, it's much smaller than I ever imagined.
